Is there any real difference between the soundbalster live value and the soundblaster live 5.1?

I believe that because the regular live supports 5.1, it sacrifices it's digital out port, but other than that they are the same.

No, there is no difference besides the 5.1 support for one and the digital for the other, the hardware is the exact same. they should sound the EXACT same. hope that helps

FYI...

I just had a problem with my SB Live! Value (OEM) not working with my Abit BE6-II v1.2. I don't know if the board is bad or not compatible. I used my SB Live! X-Gamer and it works with no problem. I looked at Creative's site and it does mention that the X-Gamer, MP3+ and Platinum are all the same cards (this is the same for 5.1).

Also, just found the Live Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 (OEM) $29.99.

Here's my take on the whole thing...

I've had the Soundblaster Live Value, the 5.1 and now the Audigy and you know what? I have been unable to really see any difference in any of them.

Sure, lab tests and some advanced features may be avaiable, but from the standpint of just using the thing to listen to music, play games with advanced sound effects etc. - I can't tell the difference.

And I'm used to being able to do so as I am a musician, a not too serious audiophile and an avid gamer.

The higher priced units are nice and do have extra features and connections, however, if you're just looking for playback and sound - get the least expensive and put the money saved into something else.

original value retail or oem doesn't have spdif output jack.

I beg to differ... my value that I bought over a year ago has the digital out( spdif jack)

your's is 2nd gen sb live.

1st gen - live and live value - live value has no spdif out jack.

2nd gen - live x-gamer, mp3+, platinum - added spdif out jack, oem is the same card but with plastic plated jacks.

3rd gen - live x-gamer 5.1, mp3+ 5.1, platnium 5.1 - added 3rd analog jack.

sb live "whatever" is still the near 3 years old sb live, same emu2k1 chip, old wine in new bottle.

There is no such thing as Value 5.1 in the US.
The latest 5.1 oem card is called Value 5.1 by some vendors.

Isn't the 5.1 supposed to be more compatible with the VIA chipset? I recall reading something about that somewhere.

some via chipset mb don't have problem with sb live at all.
