Funny!

Interesting that the author made the atheist assume that you have to be Christian in order to believe in GOD. Probably written by a christian, they often think they have a copyright on GOD, but hey just a joke....and funny one at that.

Hahaha! I laughed quite hard at this one. :) I also sent it to one of my buddies who is a hardcore athiest. He can piss me off sometimes, though. He sits there and makes fun of people who believe in God and just totally denies any input or even the remote possibility and chance that there is such a Creator. I can't prove he's wrong and he can't prove I'm right - but he likes to take it to the next level!

I'm not saying I'm really religious, but I like to keep my options and mind open to such ideas and I do go to Church and pray once in a while.

well if you really want to read into it

The grizzly bear only lives in North America where 77%(2001) of adults in the US and 83%(1991) in Canada identify themselves as Christian. Thus, in maintaining the simplicity of the joke and picking one god, it would be most correct to identify with the Christian god.

Substitute athiest with Mac User, and there would be 10x many posts from the Mac-jihad.

Not to mention most other major religions don't most often refer to their deities as just the proper name "God." Muslims refer to their god as Allah, Hindus have various names, etc.

The atheist should have asked god to make the bear a priest. Then after enduring a little molestation he would have been free to go.

 Now that was funny!

That is where the joke falls apart. All his life, the atheist never saw any evidence that god exists, so he had no reason to believe. Then, suddenly all these unexplainable things happen and god himself starts talking to the atheist, now he has a valid reason to believe.

I don't see anything hypocritical about it at all.

Meh, i think people are reading too much into it because it barely qualifies as a joke. like most christian jokes it's just a thinly veiled comment about how all the non-believers are going to hell.
if it was funnier no one would have noticed.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. If there was actually PROOF that god existed I don't think we would have Atheists in the world.
