An assimilation story

We had 3 computers where I work that do practically nothing, I had thought about assimilating them in the past but they were'nt hooked up to the internet and didn't even have modems. The more I thought about it, the more it bugged me that these computers just waste electricity. So, after months of discussion with my boss, I finally got permission to network these ancient comps to the greater network. In order to get permission I had to set up a Freesco router to isolate these computers from the greater network (sensitive files on a couple of machines). The first thing I did after everything was set up was to load the dnet client. This was my only reward for making these computers more usable and safely on the network. Two of the computers are decent , but the other two are at least trying to help TA. Soooo, after 2 days of setting up networking equipment and computers I have added the following to our efforts:

100 DX4(486) 32mb ram
100 Pentium 48mb
350 PII 64mb
400 PII 64mb

I have been doing S@H, but the way these computers are used I thought that RC5 would be more suitable. I Finally have a herd!!! Cool HuH? 🙂🙂🙂🙂

lol...congrats 😉
Now you'll get hooked and want a "Rack" for the house. 😀

Kilowatt: I have been "hooked" for quite some time. Funny you should mention building a crack rack, because I have been slowly collecting the stuff. It's amazing how much stuff you can acquire for free. Those silly windows users don't know the value of some of the stuff they have just sitting around. I have been given the following stuff out of old unused computers:

5 old hard drives that range from 170-300MB - perfect for linux crack rack

2 socket 7 mb (100 mhz too)

several 3.5 fd

atx case and power supply

just need a couple cpus and another power supply and I'll be churning out more WUs/blocks/whatever. Long live TeAm Anandtech!!!
