White Arkansas woman pulls gun on 4 black fundraising teens
WYNNE, Ark. (AP) The wife of an Arkansas jail administrator was arrested and charged with assault several days after police say she pulled a gun on four black teenagers who were going door to door to raise money for their high school football team.

Police in the eastern Arkansas city of Wynne, about 100 miles (161 kilometers) northeast of Little Rock, said the incident happened Aug. 7. Police responding to reports of "suspicious persons" found the four children on the ground, with Jerri Kelly, who is white, standing over them holding a gun, Memphis TV station WMC reported.

The officer let the children stand up, and they told him they had been selling discount cards to raise money for a school athletic program. The Wynne School District said two of the four children were wearing football jerseys.

Kelly, 46, was charged Monday with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Cross County Sheriff's Department Captain Jeff Nichols said a warrant was put out for Kelly's arrest, and she turned herself in Monday evening. She was released that night on $10,000 bond.

Kelly, who is the wife of Cross County Jail Administrator Joseph Kelly, couldn't immediately be reached for comment Thursday and it wasn't clear whether she had an attorney who could comment.

Nichols said a mugshot of Kelly wasn't taken on Monday because she had a "medical emergency" as she was being booked. He said he could not release more information, citing medical privacy laws. He said she came to the jail to have a mugshot taken after her initial court appearance on Thursday morning, in part because of community backlash.

"She was afforded the same booking process and procedures as anyone that's brought into our facility," Nichols said. "She received no preferential treatment."

Bill Winkler, who said he has lived in the neighborhood where the incident took place for four decades, said children are typically out this time of year selling discount cards for the football team.

"Usually it's right before football season, late summer or early fall," Winkler said.

Wynne School District Superintendent Carl Easley said the district is considering stopping door-to-door fundraisers.

So high school kids doing door to door fundraising for decades in the same neighborhood had a white woman pull a gun and forced them to lie on the ground, and she lived in the same neighborhood?

So, fundraising while black, seems legit.

Punishment, 2 years in jail, revoked gun ownership for life
Displaying a firearm on people when no reasonable person would consider them to be an actual threat, usually gets the one doing the displaying more time then two years. Of course the time served does vary from state to state. Firing a warning shot gets them even more time.

Fine by me, I'd be surprised if she got any time at all.

Its Arkansas. No way a jury votes to convict. She will be out in less than a month and she will sue the State for false charges against herself.

The "foolproof" (in this particular case) logic and argument her lawyer and supporters are probably using to get her off the hook:

"Hey now, it wouldn't have mattered if she did or didn't pull a gun 'cuz there's no way she would'a bought the discount cards from *ahem* "those kids" to begin with so we should all just forgive and forget what happened 'cuz nobody got kilt, right?" /s

And it only took them 6 days to decide on charges and arrest her.

And they rested on the seventh. :D

Yup... white, the jailer's wife and Arkansas. She's got the goods that will set her free. Right this minute I bet her, her husband, their families and friends are all blaming those four kids for scaring her, causing her to overreact.

She'll walk or at most, a mild pat on the wrist and a reminder to shoot them next time. After all, dead black kids tell no tales.

I guess as part of the mental health check we need to test white people for getting triggered at the sight of a black person.

Remember the white woman in Detriot.? 14 year old black boy knocked on her door one school morning looking for directions. She shot at him, fortunately she missed.

Maybe we can give live fire target tests. Pop up targets. Some white some black. Some with weapons, some without. Record results.

Sounds about right. After all, she's a well respected member of the community, so investigators gotta make sure all their facts check out for fear of retaliation.

Waiting for people to enter this thread claiming black people complain too much and racism ended when Obama was elected.

Don't know how accurate this site https://heavy.com/news/2019/08/jerri-kelly/ is, but according to them

"Jerri Kelly changed her Facebook profile photo to a graphic about PTSD and then made her cover photo a graphic about traumatic brain injuries, before eventually deleting the page entirely. It is not clear if Kelly was implying that she suffers from PTSD after a TBI. "

So it looks like she's already trying defenses.

From what I've read, they didn't even get to knock on her door. She called 911 and came out the door with a gun and forced them to lay on the ground when they were walking up the driveway.

Kids having guns would have solved this right? More guns is what we're being told?

Also, clearly she plays video games. I wonder if she's console or PC Master race? (there's word play in there)

I sort of doubt that any judge or jury will accept this as a valid deffence even in Arkansas.

Agreed. Point being, some of her supporters will, like how many Trump supporters barf up asinine weak sauce excuses for his racism and spectacular screw ups, dream up crap like that in her defense.
