An annoying, be it interesting, problem

Alright, here's a very interesting problem I've been trying to figure out for the past few days for a client of my bosses. The client's desktop is filled with email links, each one to a different e-mail. When the e-mails are deleted, they re-spawn within a few minutes. I've run a virus scan and came up with nothing. Done a lot of poking around online but haven't been able to find anything, so any help at all would be much appreciated.
 
hijackthis! also run msconfig and look for any oddball processes. not sure what virus scan you ran, but the trends micro free online scan is a great backup, you can run it directly from their web site (can't hurt) some of these things just require trial and error
 
Unfortunately I won't be able to deal with the issue until the beginning of next month, but first thing I'll run is hijack this... can't believe I didn't think to run that in the first place XD
