The tablet is still being made by ASUS. The new Nexus 7 will have:

7-inch LTPS display with 1920×1200 (WUXGA) resolution
Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, quad-core (the same processor in the Nexus 4)
5-megapixel camera on the back
HD front-facing camera
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC
4000mAh battery with Qi wireless charging
Android 4.3 – Jelly Bean

Seems inline with what was expected. Nothing off the wall or crazy.

If it ends up being remotely close to those specs and manages to stay at or close to the current price, I can't wait to experience Google's servers being overloaded again. :p

Is wireless charging on tablets really useful? How long would it take to charge a 4000+ mAh battery?
I would trade wireless charging for a little bigger battery anytime.

Ooh, WUXGA. Everything deserves WUXGA.

Incidentally, WUXGA is fun to pronounce as a word.

i wonder if it'll still "feature" the screen defects and the screen separation defect. a smaller bezel and an 8" screen would be nice too. im more excited about an updated nexus 4

any idea about a release date? I really like the 7" nook, so debating whether to pick that up for 150, or wait for this. When comparing the nexus 7" to both the ipad mini and the nook HD, the bezel and the weight of the nexus is what killed it for me. So im really hoping the bezel and weight is cut down more than anything else. Anyone else feel like way? If you have played around with an ipad mini at all, its weight and size is so much better than the nexus.

id pass on the nook. when i looked at it last weekend, it was just too slow. qualcomm is a noticeable step up, nook definitely has a last generation feel, and it apparently is going to be discontinued soon

thats pretty sad for the pc industry when a $200 7 inch table has higher resolution that the average pc monitor

Not just resolution, but also generally color accuracy, and viewing angles. Thankfully a few companies have taken the hint so far (Apple, Google, Acer) and are shipping laptops with high-DPI panels.

I'm in if its 200 bucks. Looks perfect! LOL at the slate in comparison.

My HP Touchpad is too heavy and the screen is lame, my Dell XPS 12 has a beautiful screen but is muchhh to big and heavy to be a tablet.

Cost increases extremely rapidly with increased screen size.

Also need for resolution is lower with a computer monitor.

Yes to to the first. But for the second point it's yes and no. We sit further from desktop monitors than our phone screens, but also desktop monitors are so much bigger that pixels become that much more visible. Desktop monitors have been "stuck" at current resolutions for so long that no one expects anything different. But for me....I desperately want higher DPI on desktop. That is the great thing about all the high DPI small devices we have now (phones, tablets, macbook, Kirabook, ect)....it shows us the difference that a high DPI display can make for image quality, reading text, ect. I want that on desktop!

Basically 4K desktop monitors.....can't come soon enough for me. It will be expensive at first. But I would pay good money for it.

Sad, but there are multiple reasons for it:
1) Windows apps don't deal with high DPI displays very well. Just run Google Chrome on a Surface Pro (10.6" 1080p display). It looks like crap.
2) Larger high DPI screens are more expensive.
3) Average selling price of a laptop is still $450, there's no way you're getting anything other than 1366x768 in there.

It's not that it's not possible to buy a good, high quality laptop with a great display (ASUS ZenBook Prime), but that most people don't want to pay for it.

Think I'll wait to see how Baytrail works out on 7 inch Windows tablets. Cost definitely favors the Nexus, but I love me that metro IE browser and that is what I'd be spending 99% of my time using. Still, $200 bucks is hard to dismiss.

Those specs would get my money, though I'd have to buy a second Qi charger.

That's very much within the previously-rumored specs. And I like it. My hopes are:

1. Better design. I don't necessarily want wider width, but the thickness and weight should improve over the current N7. iPad mini-like design would be welcome, though doubtful looking at recent releases of ASUS stuff.
2. Implement palm/thumb rejection while simultaneously reducing the bezel sizes. I suppose this should come natively with the 4.3.
3. Release every SKU at once. At the least let us know what else is coming. Tricked releases over time leave bad taste to early adopters.
4. Tighten up build quality. Early N7s' had too many problems with bad assembly and poor quality control. Oh, and get the Bluetooth right this time.
5. This is a wild wish but maybe enable/expose telephony? If you're going to use the same Qualcomm chips anyway, there is no reason to cripple that one specific part of the modem.

I'll definitely be getting this. I held off on the Nexus 7 originally because I just didn't like the screen at all. It was so washed out and muted. I realize you could install a kernel to help that, but I just couldn't pull the trigger.

Even though it's just updated specs, I'm completely happy with it.

EDIT!

One thing that seems to have slipped everyone's mind is the fact that the Nexus 7 never supported MHL. Here's hoping they incorporate something along with something for wireless. I'm assuming 4.3 will have something that makes it stand out that it's there!

Exactly what I'm thinking. Makes my doubt these specs, because it seems weird Google would use that processor now.
S800 isn't anywhere near ready yet.

Could have been a cost effective measure...After all, you can only stuff so much in a $200 tablet.
Maybe their choice was between S600 + crappy Nexus 7 screen or an S4 Pro + WUXGA screen? I'd prefer the later, IMO.
Not to mention, it beats any potential "retina" iPad Mini rumors. While Apple goes to the next "rumored" step in making a retina iPad Mini, Google has already gone 2 steps ahead.
