An AMD board with an extra 12V connector?

I just ordered an MSI K7T266 PRO2-RU today and I just noticed it has an extra 12V connector on it (like a P4 board).

It's great to have extra power to the board, but what does it feed? Does it just add to the main 12V circuits or does it feed specific circuits like the fan headers etc.?

My understanding is that the little 4 pin 12 V connectors on AMD boards are specifically for AGP pro cards. My MSI K7 Master also has one. So I don't think you want to be sticking the P4 power supply connector into it, unless of course you're in a daring state of mind.

Are you sure it's for an AGP Pro slot? The board doesn't list a pro slot specifically (usually do) and if it were, I would assume (maybe fatally) that the one or more of the extended pro slot pins would be the ones to recieve the benefit of the power and not fry anything if you don't have a pro card.

You could very well be right. It just seems odd. I'm just checking if you know this as a matter of fact. Thanx.

ive heard that the 4pin plug is used to power the faster amd cpus, to help the system be more stable

I would most deffinately be reading the manual to find out for sure what it is for before adding extra juice to the board...


EDIT: After looking at the latest manual for the board, It looks like that connector is for the optional "D-bracket" LED's instead of using the onboard D-led system..

With any luck, it will be next weekend. I'll post my results.

Edit: As a matter of fact, I'll be installing this bad boy with a new 1600xp in a newly modded Yeon Yang server cube. The case is now being painted yellow and clear coated inside. I'm keeping the black powder coat outside. I may have a few pics.
