An AGP voltage question

I don't know that much about this subject, so I need some help. I have a Gigabyte 7vrxp (rev 1). I just got a replacement for it, which was a revision 1.1 7vrxp. I thought that there was a problem with my agp slot on the first one, because I could not install a GF 4 Ti 4400, and my Radeon 8500 had intermitant "blank" screens while playing cs and running other 3d things. So, I ordered this new one, which is the newest revision, 1.1.

I installed windows with no problems, and installed the driver for the gf4 ti 4400 and I started getting wierd screens. I would get small characters accross the screen and the text would be multicolored. So, I chalked it up to a bad card and put my 8500 back in. With that I would get multi-shaded blue stripes every few minutes and would have to reboot.

This board has a feature to adjust the voltages for the agp, so I upped it from 1.5 to 1.6 and there was no change, so I upped it to 1.7 and all of a sudden the problems with the Radeon stopped. Could the voltage adjustment have done the trick? WHat is the agp slot suppose to run at. (I have not overclocked) Do you think it is possible to put my gf4 back in and have it work?

As I said, I have no knowledge about the voltage thing, so I need some help.

Thanks, and HELP!

Agp runs at 1.5V only
Agp 2X runs at 1.5V on newer boards 3.3V on older boards

Some board brands are having trouble with GF4400 and to lesser extent Ti4600
they are supplying .9 volts at startup causing them not to boot.
Bios updates supposedly fix this problem

These new Geforce cards are real juice suckers - amperage must be adequate.

In your case, the motherboard power distribution and regulation seems inadequate, so by upping voltage
when usage is more demanding, you dont dip BELOW required voltage.
You need to go to www.viaarena.com forums and read their "loop" faq.
The black screen is failure to initialize 4X AGP at voltage required
Forget 4X, set to 2X and reinstall O/S because setup does so at bios setting and some say O/S cant be
reset without reinstall.
By going from black screen to video "anomalies" means you are getting "closer" to properly activating the
6 strobe lines necessary for 4X.

You should buy the biggest Antec True Powersupply you can afford
You should go back to 1.5V and try upping AGP driving value to EA or FA (P and N voltage hex values)
The most important test: run a SINGLE stick of RAM.
