The topic says it all: I have about $750 to invest in a professional graphics card, I need suggestions. :)

What applications are you going to be using? Workstation specs?

If you're into DCC, then the FX1000 is your card to buy. If you're into CAM/CAD, then the VP990 is your card to buy. If you're doodle with both a Fire GLx1 is nice balance but is pretty processor reliant in some applications. So faster clocked processors rather than dual processors would work best with that card.

I'm going to be heavy into DCC using 3D Studio Max R5 and Adobe Photoshop and perhaps a bit of programming on the side, but that doesn't really require a graphics card ;)

I do exactly that and own a Parhelia :) Except with a lot more photochop (and web-design) and less 3d design...

Just thought I'd throw that out there :D, but for you're budget, I'd upgrade to a FireGl

Here is my list of what I am soon to be dealing with.

Fire GL X1, They also have a 256MB version.

Wildcat 990

Quadro4 980

The Wildcat is more CAD/CAM oriented. It can be used as a DCC card, but it would be slow depending on the application compared to the X1 and the Q4. For DCC I would check out the Fire GL X1 and the Q4. For 750? It's hard to pass up the Q4 980 I linked. For a bit more than 750? I would check out the FX line or the 128MB Fire GL X1.

Here are some recent articles on these cards in 3DSM.

In the end, IMHO Q4 980 earns my dollar for the price/performance in 3DSM.
