Lately I've been getting tons and tons of error messages on my computer, particularly in Internet Explorer. The error in IE tends to be: Internet Explorer hause caused an error in <unknown>. Internet Explorer will now close.

What are some steps I can take to help prevent errors like these, because they happening, with many programs. I've run thorough scan disk, and last week I defragmented the hard drive.

HEH dont do it! it formats your hard drive..
i suggest you uninstall your version if internet explorer (may cause some problems with other widnwos programs like office) and install the newest version of internet explorer..

this should work
also try to service pack/patch your operating system.. if its win9x/2000 you can go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com or if its windows nt4.0 you can go to www.microsoft.com/windowsnt

🙂

Which OS?

If you're running Win98/ME, thry this: go to start, run, and type in 'msconfig', then click ok; this will bring up the System Configuration Utility. On the General tab, set it to 'Selective startup' and remove the check marks from 'Process config.sys file', 'Pricess autoexec.bat file', and 'Load startup group items'. Click ok and tell the system to restart. This will disable just about everything in the background and allow you to see if something there is causing the problem. Also, try running in safe mode for a while; if safe mode runs fine, it's most likely a program running in the background, or a corrupted driver. If it looks like a driver, start with your video, that's usually the culprit.

However, if none of these steps work, it most likely is a problem with windows. A lot of people like to load windows on top of itself in a case like this, but I have never had any luck doing it that way. I would recommend at least a format of the c: drive, while you're at it you may just want to fdisk and reset your partitions.
