Amur Leopard almost gone :(

That cat was covered in that new Discovery channel series "Planet Earth", I believe.

There are 6 left, they are as good as gone.

Wow those animals are beautiful.

I just do not understand why people would hunt these animals knowing they are almost extinct.

On "Planet Earth" they mentioned that there were about 40 left.

The number of females is what is troubling (as mentioned above-about 6 remain). It also said they tend to give birth to males when pressured.

Imagine how much a skin will be worth once they're gone. The black market price could skyrocket.

The articles all use the term "in the wild" when quoting numbers. Does this mean there are still breeding pairs in zoos someplace?

A hunter shot the leopard through the tail bone. It tumbled over and was then beaten over the head with a heavy object, WWF said. Amur leopards have not been know to attack humans.

That loser needs to be banned from life. :|

Hunters in Russia's Far East have shot and killed one of the last seven surviving female Amur leopards living in the wild

so sad. killing off a beautiful species for a little bit of monetary gain which probably wont change the life of the poacher in any significant way... selfish as hell

These aren't people who even understand that concept. They're scum.

I hate hearing about stuff like this. It's happening at an alarming rate, and it's not just the shithole hunters that do it, it's the deforestation that does MASSIVE damage to the ecosystem.

I'd like to know this as well.

The Oregon Zoo had two (brother and sister), but the female died of cancer last year.
