Amtrak Train just hit a car

KLin

Lifer
Well, an Amtrak train just hit a car right in front of my work about 15 minutes ago. It ended up about 500 yards past the railroad crossing. The car is still on the tracks in front of the train. I think they're just waiting for the coroner now. Hopefully it's no one that works with me. 🙁 Check out the local paper later on tonight.

UPDATE:

Well I just found out that the arms may not have gone down. Someone saw it happen and they said they didn't go down. If this is true, BNSF is going have a wrongful death lawsuit on their hands.

They weren't one of those douchbags that tried to drive *around* the arms, were they?

That's what I thought at first, then I found out that the arms may not have been down in the first place. The train is now gone, but there's still about 10 vehicles out there.

They just took the truck out. It was just a twisted wreck of metal. It turns out it was a double-fatal. 🙁

According to that fresobee article from your link up top, they drove around the arms.

WHAT possesses people to do these things?

I mean, it's one thing if you wait for a long time without the arms raising, then look both ways on both tracks before quickly pulling through. But to take a gamble like that against a TRAIN?

Heck, if my vision was obscured I'd probably get out of the car and look up and down the tracks before driving over them with the gate down.

That's exactly what they did. Morons.

Obviously, lowered crossing arms means a train is coming! What kind of stupid idiot decides that it's a good idea to go around them anyway?

This guy gets a Darwin award for that one.
