Nice prices on select trips, the one that caught my attention is

Charlotte nc - NY for $30

with cheap airlines such as southwest/jetblue, amtrak is really losing a lot of money.

cost for roundtrip from OAK -> LAX = $75

amtrak has yet to beat that price + it's ~8-10hrs sit compared to 1-2hr sit for a flight.

Cool deals. I like Amtrak much better than flying for short trips. Took the ACCELA to D.C. a couple months ago. I wish they would have more specials on that train.

Heard they're building one now. Suppose to be fairly cheap...although there is poilitcal funding quarreling goign on or something like that. In anycase, it's suppose to be done in the next few years....

My sister lives there... I think the appeal of the Charlotte to NYC deal is more in favor of those in North Carolina.

Yea charlotte -> ny is a good deal for $30, also Charlotte to raleigh for $6.50 is hard to beat.

I am a student at UNC Charlotte. There is a ton of stuff to do here, go downtown and have some fun. Many exelent find dining/cultural/ not so cultural activities

only problem is for those tickets on southwest you have to order at least two weeks in advance. sometimes need roundtrip. amtrak you can just order day of or whatever (if they haven't sold out)

...additional problem to southwest tickets are those 'additional' fees and taxes, my $39.00 trip (one way, LAX->Sacramento), when that special was on, ended up being more like $70 after all the stuff.... not to mention how early u gotta be at the airport. It ends up to take not that much longer just to drive... but DAMN, seattle for $50, that cant be beat ^^v...
