My friend brought over his old AMS Tech TravelPro 105CS because it was not working. I troubleshot the problem and found out that it was the hard drive...He had an old Toshiba MK1401MAV 12.5mm drive in there. So I had him order up a new drive for his laptop. He ened up buying a Toshiba 10.1 GB MK1011GAV drive. It was also at 12.5 mm drive so it fit right into the machine no problem. I went into the BIOS and set it to autodetect and sure enough it saw the drive. I booted off of a floppy and FDisked the drive into two partions. Then I rebooted...It got to the Booting from floppy and froze there. I can't get it to boot from the floppy anymore. I take out the floppy and it does not give me the no operating system found error at all. I believe the old Toshiba MK1401MAV drive supported ATA-2 and ATA-3 while the new MK1011GAV is an ATA-4 drive, but aren't most hard drives backward compatible? Or is that my problem. I have been trying to find some info on the actual machine "AMS Tech TravelPro 105CS" but it seems that the company has gone out of business or their site is down. Anybody got some helpfull information? Thanks in advance.
