Hmm didn't know these 2 were that closely related. Very odd, as AFAIK penicillin still works for me, but I've been immune to Amoxicillin since about age 5 maybe earlier. Immune as in it doesn't cure anything - no more effect than water.

You should have him take some if he wants to break out in hives all over his body.
That's what happened to me when my idiot doctor prescribed it to me years ago.

Old fashioned PCN is a potassium salt (known as Pen VK). Amoxicillin is a penicillin that has a somewhat broader spectrum of action, however is less potent. What you describe is not your immunity to the drug, but the microbes resistance to it.
Most antibiotics have no direct effect on you whatsoever.

Why the hell would you have samples of perscription antibiotics? You are supposed to take the whole bottle of any antibiotics so I find it hard to believe that someone would hand out samples.

When you know a nurse or doctor, or even have family of such then you get free samples of antibiotics(which Zpack has helped me when I've gotten sick all-of-the-sudden). I wasn't going to give it to him, he's really sick (bad cold/flu) doesn't have insurance, let alone money. He wanted to take it even though he knew he was allergic to penicillin, and all of the local pharmacists were closed. So, rather than giving them to him and being liable for anything that happened, I wanted to ask. I gave him what sutafed I had left and told him to sleep on it.
