Amount of thermal paste.

i have nver done anything other thatn ot on the stock cooler on my CPU. i want to get a new one. i am looking at a zalman. i want one that it cool and quiet. anyway. when i get it how much paste do i use? do i put it on the Heatsink first or the CPU?. ifanybody has a pictures of this that would be awsome. but any help is appreciated. and any other tips for this task would be cool to.

I second that. 🙂 EXCELLENT guide.

BTW, make sure you use a quality TIM such as Arctic Silver. It really is that much better than the standard white paste stuff from Radio Shack.
 
The previously-linked artic silver guide is an excellent one for applying the paste, but also check this for some very nice tips about installing the heatsink itself (e.g. the credic card trick and whatnot), though if you have a pentium I'm not 100% sure how much of it applies what with some of these pentium sockets.
