I purchased it after playing the demo and it is definitely worth the $10 it costs. My girlfriend still makes fun of me for screaming like a little girl in the flooded area about 30 minutes into the game.

I'll be honest. I downloaded the game.

After reading the blog though i'm going to order a copy from their store after work.

I just purchased it from their website after playing the demo, I think their servers are getting hammered, I am getting like 80KB/s.

Do they have a torrent link (Linux version?) Surely they don't only have direct download of a ~1GB file? :(

Great game - probably the only one that has actually scared the crap out of me in a long, LONG time. Well worth $10. Hell, easily worth $20 if you miss the sale.

I liked Amnesia, but I will admit, a part of me was glad when i beat the game and it was over. Also, I hope a sequel is a few years away for um... my therapy... to finish :)

I know how you feel. It took the gameplay experience pretty far near the end.

Possible Spoilers Below if you haven't played and want the purist experience before playing:

Game deserves serious attention from anyone who has found staleness in the pc game offerings of late. Though a few of the gameplay mechanics, especially near the end, I thought were questionable it was overall an incredible experience to play through. I'm thinking of a hatch near the end that requires a unique viewpoint and quick click of the mouse to activate in a unique manner to anything else presented in the game up to that point. There was no reasoning to come to the conclusion that was a solution IMO, and I found it by dumb luck.

I usually hate point click adventures which this game draws heavily upon for the reason I don't get a lot of the necesary (Read: Non-intuitive) progression flow. If their is a gameplay mechanic that has never been introduced to the player why introduce it in a subtle way near the end and make it a requirement for progression? Shigeru Miyamoto I always thought was the best at introuducing a formula to the player and then drawing on the formula in creative and intuitive yet challenging ways in order to move forward gameplay progression in meaningful/fullfilling ways (Read: Zelda/Metroid).

LOL - I can only play 15-20 minutes at a time. Lots of atmosphere. Footsteps in the water freaked me out a bit.

Got it along with the Penumbra series thru Steam. At first I was like 'this is kinda cool.' Open/close stuff, manipulate objects and so forth.
I'm wandering down thru some dark wine cellar looking rooms. Then at the far end of the room I suddenly see some shadowy........something.......(for the very first time) kinda walk/lurch quickly across the open doorway. I think there was some sudden 'atmospheric music' too
My whole body jerked back, eyes grew wide, gasped loudly, and my pulse felt like it doubled......all in about 2 seconds!
I took a break from the game soon afterwards......lol.
One of the better games I've played in a long, long time IMHO.

Edit: Put spoiler tags on part, just in case. Sorry 'bout that.

My biggest gripe with the game is the fact that I can only stand to play it for half an hour or so before needing to turn it off.

"Scary" movies don't bother me, primarily because you can sense what's coming by the scene, music, how long it's been since someone has died, etc. You also have nothing to do but watch as the story unfolds. With Amnesia, on the other hand, you're living the horror. Despite the gut feeling that there's something terrible right around the corner, you have to be the one to choose which door to open or where to run and hide. You are responsible for listening closely and determining if something is coming.

It really plays with your instincts and gets your blood pumping. I give the game an A+, and I'm not even half way through it.

I bought the game when it came out and still haven't been able to finish it. It's too damn intense. Like you, I can only play it for half an hour at a time. Playing it at night with headphones on.........holy crap.
