Amex: What credit rating is rquired?

About 5 months back, I applied for an AMEX card and was rejected due to insufficient credit. As of about two months ago, my credit was 710. Is it possible to call them and get placed on a waiting list or something so that as soon as I have "sufficient credit", they will automatically accept me? I don't want to have a credit inquiry every month or anything.

Well, 1) even though I've had an amex for 10 years now, I hardly ever use it. I _really_ don't think you're missing out on much

2) "insufficient" credit isn't the same as a bad credit score. Insufficient credit simply means you don't have enough data backing up that credit score. I'd wait a year or more and try again later

I have two problems:

1) The only credit card I have (First USA [Bank 1]) has a $750 limit and is not likely to be raised much even though I pay it off in full every month.

2) I buy enough stuff online that I would REALLY like to have the one time use numbers from AMEX.

I got a AMEX Blue for Students last year.. My credit rating is around 710-715 and they just recently upgraded it to an AMEX Blue Cash [thats what the CSR said anyways, americanexpress.com is showing different so far]. I had to try twice because the first time they wouldn't let me since I'm still a student. Guess the second CSR didn't care.

If your just after the one time use feature , Citibank cards have that. Give them a try

MBNA also offers one time use cc's as well.

However I would apply for CitiBank before MBNA, that's just my personal preference.

not trying to hijack the thread but does anybody know if AMEX will upgrade my current AMEX Blue to AMEX Blue Cash?
