AMEX scheduled payments

I log in every month to all my credit cards and I schedule payments in advance. Sometimes I log in a 2nd time as Mint starts beeping about my due dates to make sure things are scheduled. I swear I scheduled it for my AMEX account and I even remember double checking to make sure there was an early August payment scheduled.

Today I logged into all my 4 CCs as usual for my monthly routine. The first 3 were good. The AMEX account went wild. Told me I was late. I freaked the shit out and paid the whole $2k right now.

I haven't done systematic testing enough, but maybe I'm forgetting to click the submit button, or does the system not let you schedule payments too far in advance or does it wipe out the scheduled payments list every once in a while?

I usually schedule my payment the day the statement is available, so a bit over two weeks in advance. I have never had them delete a scheduled payment.

I always log out and log back in, and then I check the scheduled payments. Keeps me safe. If you fuck up by one day, just call them and sweet talk them into dropping the late fee. Usually works.

You can call your CC companies and have them all set the due date on the same day of the month. I do not pay ahead of billing day, but I will pay all my CC bills within a week of billing day. That way I'm never late, and I don't mess up billing.

My AmEx and my Visa are both set to debit the balance from my account on the due date. It takes no intervention on my part.

Try it, you'll never have to concern yourself again.

I login and schedule payment as soon as I get the email that my statement is available, which is always a good two or three weeks before the due date, which covers for any mixups that might happen.

Mine have jumped sometimes by a week or more. Hasn't happened recently. One time it changed so much that my early payment was too early to count for the current billing cycle.

sucks.

I arrived at this post through a Google search - I had the EXACT same experience described by DLeRium!

I scheduled a payment in late October for a payment due in November (I usually set the payment date a few business days before the due date and pay in full, and have never been late). Around the due date, when I logged into my bank account, I did not see any debits for the scheduled AMEX payment. So I logged in to my AMEX account, and was shocked to find the scheduled payment had mysteriously vanished.

When I called Customer Service (as luck would have it, this conversation took place a couple days after the due date), the lady I spoke with hinted that other users had experienced a similar problem - she asked me to go ahead and make the payment, and asked me to call back to request a refund if any late fees or finance charges get posted to my account. I requested her to add notes to my account about the conversation we had so the person I speak with next time would know what happened, and she offered to do it.

The following month, as expected, there were finance charges added. I called to ask for a refund, but this time the guy who answered said he tried to, but the system wouldn't let him, as these were "legitimate" charges. He said it was valid because there were no system issues or outages reported around that time! I tried to reason it out but he flat out refused to entertain my request, so I got mad and hung up.

I wonder how many more people deal with this nonsense daily - I just hope there are enough airing their grievances so AMEX takes notice and backs off these cheap tactics, or that someone decides to file a class action lawsuit or something...

My theory - AMEX must hate offering no-annual-fee credit cards that also offer rewards. So every once in a while, they try to recover some of that with BS like this!

I schedule payments for two AMEX cards every month and I've never had this issue. Although it's possible a technical glitch occurred, it could be that a confirmation screen was not clicked through. AMEX always emails me when the payment is received; if you schedule your payment a day or two in advance of its due date, you have some time to make a correction in case something goes wrong.

In any case, if this is a one-time incident, AMEX should have corrected it and waived any fees/charges. Make sure you write down the date, time and name of the rep when they promise these things so that there's no confusion if you have to call back and refer to a prior call.

I use autopay on my AMEX. I think they draft on the 9th of the following month of the current statement.

Why schedule payments for a future date? Just log in and pay it, being early is OK. Print the receipt/confirmation to a PDF. Done.

I am thinking ATOT's trollers are opening new accounts with all these necros.

I don't hate necros myself, but this is the kind of stuff that puts them on a moderators hit list.

necro...

but anyway...

My auto-payments are setup directly on the amex site. Easy. Not available for all banks I suppose?
