AMEX savings credit card offer

Got an offer from AMEX for their "savings" card. I was ready to toss it out like all offers but read.

"you get 3.8% interest on your savings, plus we'll contribute 1% of your purchases to the account"

at first glance this seems pretty good. anybody know anything about the offer?
 
...3.8 is no better than ING. Unless you have trouble saving, I don't see the advantage. AMEX is just forcing you to save at least 1% of your purchases.
 
ING Account + Citi Dividend Platinum Select (5% at grocery, gas and drugstores, 1% on everything else) FTW.
