American Express Private Payments is being discontinued !
As per the Customer Rep I spoke to, not a lot of people used the "Private Payments" feature. They apparently are removing the service because of dismal use of the service.
Private Payments is a wonderful way to protect against fraud and accidental duplicate charges to the card. Private Payments generate a new card number that can only be used once by the vendor.
The agent said that if more people called them in support of Private Payment, they very well might continue the service !

Call their Consumer Service Relations Department at 212-640-2000 (Office of Arnold Barry Senior Vice President of Consumer Relations)
Option 2:
If you wish to not call the above toll line, call the toll-free number on the back of your AMEX card and voice your support for Private Payments.
