I haven't tried them, but it seems to me the laws of physics pretty much conclusively tell us they would have a jarring, unpleasant ride compared to pneumatic tires.

I was thinking that it was to good to be true but even with the way these tires are created it will still be a very unpleasant ride compared to pneumatic tires?

My gut feeling is that they'd have to ride poorly. If the foam were soft enough to have a compliant ride, it would also create meaningful rolling resistance. I betcha they're also a collossal pain in the ass to mount.

If you are really having problems with frequent flats, the odds are that your tires are underinflated. I am a fairly large guy (6'4", 195), and don't get flats often. If this is really a problem for you, I'd suggest using Slime sealant, rather than a solid-foam tire.

What kind of Slime sealant and doesn't it need to be refilled a lot in the tire ? Does it cause a mess as well ? I read a lot about it and it seems ok.

I looked at heavy duty tires but those won't prevent flats either. The only thing is a airless tire.

I just don't want to be get a flat tire. I don't mind changing one but I rather not get a flat tire.

Slime works quite well. It doesn't ever need to be refilled. It won't cause a mess unless you tear off a valve stem by riding on an uninflated tire (which I have done once or twice). It does add weight, and honestly I don't bother with this kind of thing for that very reason.

None of the above. I use nice light tubes, actually. Heavy-duty tires, tubes, and tire liners are all effective, but they give the bike a nastier ride, and tend to add weight. My best flat-prevention tool is my ancient Silca Pista floor pump - as long as I keep my tires properly inflated, I don't have flat problems of any significance.

What about nails, glass, etc ? Sometimes you can't see it or avoid it.

Well, as they say, sh!t happens. I'm not going to make my whole cycling experience less fun with heavy tires/tubes just to prevent a couple of flats a year.

Do you bring a spare tube with you or do you just walk to the nearly bike store if you get a flat?

I normally have a frame pump and a small seat bag with an extra tube and patch kit.

That's why I carry a spare tube and a patch kit. I have actually had that happen - once in San Francisco I absent-mindedly rode over the metal grating above the underground BART trains (I was distracted by a hottie!), and immediately pinch-flatted both tires on my road bike. That led to about 15 minutes of patching, but I was able to continue my ride.

So what type of tires + inner tubes (brand) do you use please?

Also do you think you save any money by just using the light weight ones and replacing the inner tubes ? Do you replace a inner tube everytime you get one flat in the inner tube?

How often do you replace your tires ?
