America's Worst [Fast Food, Restaraunt] French Fries

NFS4

No Lifer
Worst Fries for Your Blood Pressure
Dairy Queen Chili Cheese Fries
1,240 calories
71 g fat (28 g saturated, 0.5 g trans)
2,550 milligrams sodium

This one’s a no-brainer: Chili, cheese, fried potatoes. But even a savvy eater couldn’t possibly anticipate how bad these 3 ingredients could be when combined by one heavy-handed fast-food company. There’s as much sodium in this side dish as you’ll find in 15 strips of bacon. Stick with classic ketchup and recapture nearly a day’s worth of sodium and 930 calories.
😱😱😱

Worst Fries in America
Chili’s Texas Cheese Fries w/Jalapeno Ranch
1,920 calories
147 g fat (63 g saturated)
3,580 mg sodium

The only thing that comes close to redeeming this cheesy mound of lard and grease is the fact that it’s ostensibly meant to be shared with a few friends. Even so, you’ll collectively be taking in an entire day’s worth of calories, three days’ allotment of saturated fat, and a day and a half’s allotment of sodium. What’s even scarier, if you can imagine, is that even if you try to order more sensibly and ask for the “half” order of Texas Cheese Fries, you’ll still receive a disastrous dish that packs in 1,400 calories. There’s one French fries side dish at Chili’s that’s acceptable, although even in its much-reduced form, you’d be better off splitting it.
😱😱😱😱

Aren't they comparing appetizers at restaurants to a McDonald's... small fry? You know... the small fry that is barely a handful of fries for me.

Good God...

that is crazy how much fat and calories are in this kind of food (and I call it food in only the loosest sense of the term).

Fast food fries suck since they took out the animal products . Fries in the 80's were so good, the ones now are like potato toothpicks and taste like it.

I think the daily serving of sodium per day is supposed to be about 2400mg for a guy if I'm not mistaken, so that is CRAZY!

DQ's site says 1020 calories, 71g fat, 2360mg sodium, out of a 424g serving size. that's nearly a pound of food.

sonic's large chili cheese fries are 284g serving size, 690 cals, 37g fat, 1290mg sodium. so not quite as bad for you on a per volume basis.

why is it all the bad food taste really really really good? i like apples but damn i dont crave apples like i do a big slop bucket of chili cheese fries with gobs of onions.

served in a 32 oz cup and loaded up with jalapenos. it's my new favorite food at the ballpark.

worst salad: CPK thai crunch salad.. (the only thing i like at CPK)
worst appetizer: applebees appetizer sampler (i eat this as a meal!)

>_<

french fries are magically delicious
The other thing magical about them is how they can hide so much fat and salt.

I don't either. I actually like apples.

I don't really even like fries.

I usually substitute or skip them but every once in awhile I'll be in the mood.

I like to "roll my own" so to speak, but of the major chains I find McDonalds to be the best. I used to like Wendy's, but after Dave died, they went to hell.

I take my fries with some salt and pepper, ketchup and maybe malt vinegar. I really don't like dumping tons of crap on them.

I've found over the last decade or so that it seems that chains are increasing & increasing the amount of salt in their food. You're pointing out how bad they are according to what those companies have actually published, but if I'm not mistaken, just a few months ago, there was a report that showed these companies are using a "best case" to report calories, fat grams, and sodium; and are understating the actual calories (fat grams, and sodium) in many cases.

Because you're wired to like high calorie foods. Our bodies evolved to seek out high calorie foods to support our giant brains. Food was scarce, so things that taste sweet or fatty produce a better taste so we would be encouraged to eat as much of it as we could.

Today food in not scarce, but we are still programed to seek it out in large quantities.

Nice work nature.

It wasn't the animal products they took out, it was the hydrogenated oil, which they used to save money (it lasts longer). Real fries are always fried in vegetable oil-twice. First they are blanched at a lower temperature, then drained, and later fried in hot oil till crispy.
None of these places make fries correctly. Homemade ftw.

Weird. I didn't know that's how you're supposed to do it, but in making french fries on my own, I finally figured that out. That's the only way to make REALLY good french fries.

McDonalds used to cook their fries in a high % of beef tallow and that accounted for a lot of the flavor we used to remember. They switched to vegetable oil in the early 90's.
