Americas-most-hated-company-is-going-away

I understand the hate for Time Warner Cable. What I don't understand is how they beat out Comcast for that honor. Comcast pissed me off more the first week I was their customer than TWC did in a decade.

Their terrible service is just being transferred to another company. Maybe Charter will turn things around but someone buying Comcast would do nothing for their horrible service.

I echo your sentiment. I've had TWC for 8 years and never had an issue. I was sweating the Comcast deal while that was ongoing. I was so relieved the government blocked it. I'd rather cancel my Internet than have to deal with their data caps.

Comcast is the most hated company in America as far as I'm concerned.

TWC has always been pretty good to me here in Los Angeles. Fast speeds, close to zero downtime, and generally minimal hassles when I have to go there. I ONLY use their cable internet though. When my idiot contractors cut the underground cable, TWC came out (on time!) and ran a new above-ground cable, for free.

I'm afraid of the transition to Comcast. Are they just above TWC on that hated list?

I have hated Time Warner for a long time. Because they have a monopoly where I live, they kept raising prices for years. Now that Google Fiber is being introduced into our neighborhood, they have gotten all warm and friendly. Our whole neighborhood hates Time Warner and we have all decided to have a big party on the day we return our Time Warner equipment and hook up with Google. Even though Time Warner knows that they are priced almost $100 more than Google, at a third the speed, they still won't come down in their price, but for NEW customers, they will charge you 1/2 price with a 2 year contract.

That would be my one complaint about TWC. They do not publish the non-contract pricing at all anymore. It's all about the "special deal" for new customers. Your $49.99 for the 1st year does not entice me when I don't know how much it will be after that.

Have to see what Charter will offer here in Apex, NC .. We currently have AT&T Uverse which is very expensive ($210 month) for cable and internet. And they only allow up to 4 wireless tv boxes and you can not record more than 4 shows at once (this is 4 streams, so if you are using 3 for DVR, then only one TV can be watching a show which is not being recorded) .. We do have TWC in the area (there box is right in our front lawn) but we do not like some of the features of the remote control and dvr functions. Not sure if that will all change with Charter as the Cable / Internet company. We would probably get much faster internet (right now we are around 22MBS speed which is reasonable (came from dsl at 3mbs)

The Basic TWC combo (25/2.5 Mb, TV, and VOIP Tel.) is already $210 in NYC .

You can bet that if there will be any change it will be Up.

The first "Glorious" Change is that it will be No TWC, or Charter, but SPECTRUM.

Yes, it will be called SPECTRUM ... the questions become:
Will they do a better price than AT&Thief Uverse ? ?
Will they change to a more user friendly remote control & dvr interface ? ? ?
Will they have the same channels as AT&T or maybe a couple extra that AT&T does not ? ?

Spectrum is $60 for 60/3Mb, then Spectrum silver is $69, and phone is $20, for a total of ~$150/month.
Not sure if there is a extra tax in NYC, wouldn't doubt it.

Yeah, that's what I remembered, but the list they linked was for more than just ISPs. TWC's cable TV division was ranked lowest (51) while their ISP division was ranked higher (58). Comcast's divisions were ranked 54 (TV) and 56 (ISP), so both Comcast and TWC are the worst but in different categories. Charter is not much better though (TV 63/ISP 57), so I doubt any good will come from this merger.

I'm pretty sure Comcast holds that crown and they are not going anywhere unfortunately. For you TWC folk; one benefit that could be coming to you is the elimination of data caps (almost) in entirety. Charter completely 180'd their stance on caps somewhere between 2014 and 2015. They only reserve the right to throttle an account that has been consistently abusive of the available bandwidth. I have had great experience with their internet in my area; in four years there has been an honest probably 8 hours of downtime that wasn't my router going shortbus. Their phones have been a different story. Based on what clients at work and our own office phones have gone through, I use IP phones at home. Best of both worlds, cheap reliable phones.
