It's really nothing new, it's just much easier with everyone thinking everyone else needs to know what they are doing 24/7.

China and Great Britain are still ahead of us. The US doesn't yet have security cameras on every street corner.

Yet. Why do they need them though when they can just follow you around via your mobile signal. Though I'm sure President Barack McCarthy-Nixon will warm up to that as well. But hey, as long as it's not Bush doing it, who cares right?

Nope, no security cameras. You lose.
Who says that I was talking about the security cameras? Your precious government is spying on their citizens and citizens of other countries.

They also are looking for the former CIA worker to charge him for bringing prism to public eye. You're delusional to think that the US is behind anyone.

You could make an argument that watching what I do outside my home isn't spying, however they choose to collect the light. On the phone side I still have a gut feeling that it's much ado about nothing. If I read things correctly they are getting metadata, not content. Anyway, nobody who really needs privacy is relying on the telephony and voip carriers to provide it for them. It's pretty trivial to set yourself up with completely untraceable and untappable communications.

How did you people think cell phones (or land line for that matter) work? They need to know how to place call, route it and bill for time used. This is all collected in a file. (your bill)
Did you think the government said " We won't peak, it might be disturbing."?

It was pretty clear you were referring to security cameras from the text that you quoted and rolled your eyes at.

Dubious distinction. Being better than the worst isn't much to brag about. America has a lot of shame attached to its name, much of which gets ignored due to our WWII involvement. History's great, but it's over. What matters is now, and now isn't looking too pretty.
