if you have this game. Is it fun?
How is the learning curve?
it appears to be available as a free download at almost 900 MB...so is it freeware. shareware???
it ports to linux I see....what would one do differently to set it up in linux then windows?

thanks for any info, don't want to download almost a GB for nothing.
Apparently this games been around for quite a while but I never heard of it till I started playing with Linux.

It's fun if you like that kind of game. It's not for everyone.

There are offline training missions. Completing basic training will let you start to play online. Once you've completed special forces training and gain 15 honor, then you can play the special forces classes available on special forces maps.

It's free, paid for by the U.S. Army and American Taxpayers.

I'm not sure about linux. In fact, I'm not sure the current Linux client is up to date. The current Windows version is 2.6 which is what you'll need to play on most servers.

I think it's an excellent team oriented game. The "roe" penalties do a decent job of cutting down on some of the more common multiplayer trolling issues.

For a free game it's hard to beat for a muliplayer online team shooter.

Edit: The learning curve? Well, there's more to do than just shoot bad guys, but it's not more complex than an average fps. You need to learn at least a handful or responses. There's also a bind that lets you report your position with one key, and that's a must.
