AT&T: Fastest
Sprint: Most dependable
Verizon: Largest
T-Mobile: ???????????

I think this is utterly retarded. I suppose AT&T's claims are based on the fact that it has deployed 7.2 mbps HSPA in some cities already.

AT&T has been surprising me with increased 3G coverage in my area as of late. I used to get 3G nowhere except my college campus which is very close to some very large cell towers. Now there's only a few areas I travel through often that are 3G dead zones, and it still has EDGE so it doesn't interfere with my mapping or pandora or anything. Fastest? Who knows, but they've been working hard to get better coverage around here.

at&t coming out an calling it's network 3G as a branding thing was marketing genius. yeah, they were years behind verizon and sprint in terms of rolling out a 3G network, but now people think at&t is the only one with a 3G network.

though, their claim that more smartphone users are on their network than anyone else due to the network is bogus. iphone users don't give a rat's ass that they're on at&t.

Fixed.

Seriously, I'm paying over $160/mo for two phones (one is an iPhone) with 600 shared minutes and the bare-bones packages for everything, it's redicules.

I'm close to dropping my iPhone, telling my sister she's on her own, transferring the account to her and getting a netbook added to my existing VZW account.

In the DC area, at least, Sprint has the best data network. AT&T is the worst. I've used every major carrier for work purposes.

Verizon is more expensive by what I've seen. Unlimited data is about the same, but Verizon's cheapest plan was $5 more and so were their text plans.

That's part of the apple tax, man.

The touchpro 3g thats coming out (aka g2) is a very very nice phone. Its very competitive with the Iphone, imo. Much sleeker than the G1, battery life is about twice as good. A bit more internal memory and seems to have a better responding touchscreen for the on screen texting. Not to mention the web browser is without a doubt faster than the Iphones. Overall, great device, you should check it out.

See that is the problem. The device might be awesome but it is all about the platform now. The only thing right now that is a real threat IMO to the iphone is the Palm Pre. If they Palm Pre was on verizon then I would really be tempted to dump my iphone.

The g2 is interesting but until there is a real community behind it then I am not all that interested.

PREACH ON BROTHER!!

Except its actually 3x faster for me. My name is SunSamurai. I come from dialup. =(

By the way ignore the BS about 'fastest' each have compatible networks, the main thing to look for is low latency, and Sprint seems to outdo everyone on their EVDO network.

You realize that stupidity will follow you from carrier to carrier?

Honestly though, im on the 550 family plan with an iPhone and the 20$ Data. THAT is "bare-bones packages". Guess what? We pay 80$ a month for that. So it looks liek you might want to take another look at what the hell you're paying for, WARNING: THIS MIGHT REQUIRE YOU TO READ SHIT

Uhh Touch Pro 2 is not the G2 is it? I highly doubt it. From what i've seen about the G2 it isn't the same phone. Correct me if I'm wrong.

G2 = Magic.
Touch Pro 2 = Touch Pro 2.

Where? I do not believe this is the case. This happened in some western states but this was T-Mobile and Cingular. When ATT and Cingular merged, Cingular sold their network to T-Mobile and got both ATT and old Cingular network access. This lasted for 3 - 4 years until T-Mobile fully kicked them off. Shared network agreements expired in 2007 and in 2008 I started seeing some T-mobile towers being restricted.

However, I'm mostly referring to CA so I do not know how the rest of the nation works.

I do know that Cingular piggybacked off T-Mobile in NY and some northeast region, and this was why they allowed T-mobile to piggyback on the west coast. It was mainly to help both sides get nationwide coverage but there is no way they use identical networks anymore.

T-Mobile's 3G network is entirely different than ATT's. Different frequencies and such.

This article compares AT&T/Verizon/Sprint 3G Network and was just released on tuesday so it's very recent.

http://www.computerworld.com/a...asic&articleId=9134941

Their outcome:
Verizon is the fastest
Sprint is the most reliable
AT&T second fastest but worst reliablility of all 3

Critics have always said how bad AT&T was compared to the others. I guess people really love their iphone and don't care how bad coverage is. Coverage is too important to me. Sprint is just too cheap and reliable compared to everyone else. $99 for Everything Unlimited is just too awesome to pass up.
