Americans: Would you bail on the US?

Suppose after years of financial mismanagement the US hits another great depression. People are losing their jobs, taxes go high, things all in all look very bleak for the next 10 years.

However you are offered a very nice and secure job overseas and your immediate family can come with you. The country has a strong economy and has no signs of entering a depression. The country you're leaving for doesn't matter, it could be Japan, Iraq, England. It's your choice.

Many other skilled workers in America are jumping at the opportunity but their exodus is worsening the economy. The US government claims that the people who are leaving the country during these hard times are no better than draft dodgers and wouldn't be allowed to return.

The country offering you work is welcoming you with open arms and you'll experience no discrimination if you choose to join them. Your family will support you either way. So...

Would you leave the US during hard times?

Added: Hypothetical scenario due to the "This couldn't happen" responses.

Here is the scenario: Japan, India, and China become the worlds economic super powers. Their new production abilities far exceed that of the US. If the US stops producing then the other countries will pick up the slack (through their super factories that don't exist yet).

Cliff Notes: In my hypothetical future the US isn't the end all economy that it is now. It's as important as say, Mexico.

Considering it is an impossibility, both because such a US scenario can not happen, and because if soemthing this disastrous did take place in the United States all other advanced nation would suffer similarly, it is not easy to answer.

However, suspending disbelief, no.

It's pretty simple to answer :).

Your leaving the US would contribute to an exodus of workers that's severly damaging the economy. However you would be in a country were you'd earn alot of money and wouldn't be bothered by a depression.

Well, I did answer. ;)

There just could not be such a scenario. The other country would necessarily be in a depressed state as well. Still, I would stick in America.

The given scenario is almost impossible. In today's global economic environment, if the US were to have another great depression, so would the rest of the world as well.

Why are hypotheticals so hard :p.

Happy? Or do you guys need more details ;).

As long as the US patent office remains intact, china and co. cannot hope to match the productivity of the US.

Right now, I'd have to agree. But as other nations (China and India come to mind) become more and more industrialized, the United States economic prowess will wane more and more. Then, I'd say, it's possible. But right now, probably not.

In this scenario, its entering a depression and on the brink of collapse. Doesn't sound like the best country to me.

If the US enters a depression and collapses, what do you think will happen to the rest of the world?

Since we don't do anything for the rest of the world except start wars, prop up Israel, and export bad movies, I think they'll get along just fine without us. You overestimate the United States' importance in the whole scheme of things.

Already looking for a place in UK, Germany or s.america (Chile) to bail from this place.
Either that or we will just move to NYC. (pretty isolated from the backward parts even moreso then the city of SF)
So yes, I owe nothing to a arbitrary border. Why limit yourself?

The US does a lot more than just make bad Hollywood movies.

How insulting to the people that actually do something productive.

I guess you must not really do much.
