I actually followed this from the very first show.

Kevin was (IMO) much better in his first performance than he was for the rest of the show, BUT, I also think he was more in his "comfort zone" in his song and performing style. the producers put a lot of pressure on the contestants to "do it my way."
None the less, I can't take anything away from the guy. He came on stage and sang his heart out every time. He hit a few flat spots here and there, missed an occasional note or two, but there was just something about the "Hillbilly Chicken Catcher" from Kentucky.

The lady who came in second, Barbara Padilla...wow, what a fabulous voice. The cancer survivor thing probably gained her some sympathy votes, but for me, it was the voice...simply stunning.Hopefully, an opera company will pick her up. With that voice, she NEEDS to be singing professionally.

I couldn't argue for or against either one winning. They were my #1 and #2 picks through out the show.

Yeah, I couldn't argue with either winner, but if I have to chose Kevin would get my nod. He needs it more, and he is very sincere with his songs. You're right about the producers' spins, I thought he'd be more suited for country songs even though I'm not a country fan.

As for Barbara, she can sing, but she also has a doctorate in music, and her husband is loaded. She can do without the million dollars.

I don't care for most of what passes for country music nowadays, but I do like a lot of stuff that came out from the mid-70s and earlier. IMO, that's the kind of music that would best suit Skinner's voice and style.

I heard she had a Master's in music...didn't hear about a doctorate...but it's certainly possible. Also, I hadn't heard that they were wealthy.

I do agree that the million will make a huge improvement in Kevin's life, not that it wouldn't for almost anyone, but he comes from dirt-poor stock. (and is unemployed to boot)

IMO, America did good with the voting. I agreed with MOST of the pics except Voices of Glory over Lawrence Beaman. He had a tremendous voice. "The next Barry White." IMO, he should have made it into the top 5.

That guy is terrible. I wish they'd eliminate all singers from the show. The only act I liked this season was Acrodunk.
