An Upside Down American Flag, means National Emergency

Many flipped the Flag over the morning of 9/11

We have been lied to and stripped of many of the precious Freedoms the Country was Founded on and many more threatened.

All Americans Flip your Flags over until we have a reason to right side it back up after the Election!

I was wondering when someone was gonna point this out. You must be as old as me!

I was told in the late 60's that the upsidedown flag was meant as a display of a National distress. I think it was in Boy Scouts I learned this, but there were stipulations as to when this should be done.

Could we be in any more "National Distress" than now?

I support our troups. I always will. Our President right now is a different story. He has led us into a conflict that wasn't ours to begin with. He can say he was not told the truth about WMD, but he made the final call to go to war in Iraq. He has made no real effort to bring an end to it either. His power hungry mind wants another term, and a continuing war might just get him there. If we would have stuck with the original plan of capturing Bin Laden, I would support him. His arrogant leadership has led us into international distress.

Upside down flag is distress signal

Oceanside, New York (Just East of Manhattan Island) - In the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., Vietnam veteran Dana Rickard began flying his flag upside down, a move which he said caused him to be harassed by some people.

Rickard said flying the flag upside down is a standard military distress signal and was never intended to be disrepectful.

"It means we need some help here. That's American heritage, it has nothing to do with saying anything bad about the flag," said Rickard, an Oceanside resident.

The United States Flag Code supports Richard's statement.

The code formalizes and unifies the traditional ways in which we give respect to the flag and includes the following:

The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing. It is flown upside down only as a distress signal.

The flag should not be used as a drapery, or for covering a speakers desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general. Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top.

The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard.

The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, fireman, policeman and members of patriotic organizations.

The flag should never have placed on it, or attached to it, any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind.

The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.

Which came first, the OT or the P&N?

All things aside, I think if we do this there will be no reason to ever right it.

The left needs a avatar to unite under? It seems fitting though, they have been in distress for quite some time now. They need help, I've tried to help them by providing a winner's formula but both those threads were ignored.

Other than that - nice troll post dave.

Yes but what you are trying to make is a political statement not a distress singnal.

You weren't alive during the Carter administration were you?

Tell me....what exactly makes you think it's so bad in the U.S. right now? The economy is picking up, unemployment which was already at a reasonable figure is dropping, and we have disrupted the world's largest terror organization to the point they can no longer pull off "the big one." Seems to me that things are grooving along just fine.

Look at his posts and you will see that he just sits around all day being brainwashed by the media. Of course he will think the world is ending.

Actually I was alive during the Eisenhower administration.

I see jobs leaving, pay scale shrinking, a President who wants to open up jobs for Illegals so that major companies can hire them, and us spending bazillions on a war we should never have started. I see our schools going bankrupt, and our moral values in the toilet. Other than that, you're right, we be groov'in!!!

You know, I was thinking of a big hand flipping off the gipper, but I doubt the mods would ever go for it. ;)

To insinuate that America is in distress is un-American and treasonous. I think violators should be summarily shot or perhaps taken to gas chambers.

funny thing is CAD, i am not a liberal. i am rather moderate with a slight tendency to favor ideals such as a smaller government, a strong military defense and quite a few other traditionally conservative concepts. this upcoming election marks somewhat of a milestone for me as it will be the first time in my life that i have not favored the republican nominee.
