The real reason we won't switch to metric is because of song lyrics.
How would you incorporate words like "kilometer", milliliter, and kilogram into a hit pop song?
I mean who the hell is gonna listen to a song with lyrics like:
"But I would walk 804.672 kilometers
And I would walk 804.672 more
To be the man who walked 1,609.34 kilometers
To fall down at your door miles
And I would walk 804.672 kilometers
To be the man who walked 1,609.34 kilometers
To fall down at your door"
Nobody. This is why we need standard.
But in all seriousness we need metric. No reason to keep using an archaic outdated system other than the fact we're big dumb murica and we don't like new ideas unless we came up with them.
