Does anyone on ATOT know ASL? How long does it take to grasp the basics? What's the best way to learn it?

my wife took a class and learned the basics, to "pass" the class they had to read/sign a childrens book to the class , check your local community college or adult continuing education program

the class she took was about six weeks, a couple hours one night a week and really cheap, like $40

I didnt know that sign language differed depending on where you were geographically.

[Aftermath]

It's not very hard. I took it for a semester in high school and our final was to sign along with a song of our choice. I did Tenacious D - Tribute, but was grossly outclassed by a girl doing The Devil Went Down to Georgia.
