Payphones to cost $.50 a call

50 cents. Damn. Its 25 cents in Canada everywhere and you get unlimited local calls on that. Plus the US cellphone plans are a bend-over ordeal. Cellphone plans here cost more in US dollars than an equivalent plan in Canadian dollars.

I find a lot of services are like this in the US. If you don't watch your money you'll get nickel and dimed every month for hundreds. Its easy to make money here, but easy to spend it!

They already cost .50 in my town and have for awhile --- You would think that they would lower their price to try and persuade users to not use their cell phones and use pay phones. On campus, Southwestern Bell, has removed almost every payphone but 1 or 2 due to the fact that they make no money. Remind you we have a campus of 25,000 students and 2 payphones? They must really be hurting. heh

Actually, the Canadian phone companies are planning the same increase.

Given the rise of cell phone and calling card use, I am hardly surprised that people that use the payphones are going to have pay more for the same service. I imagine in a few years, payphones just will not exist.
