Since music is a popular category around here.. :)

Both are really nice, but I'd have to give the edge to the Canadian's. Possibly because I've heard the Star Spangled Banner about 2 million times, but still..

i say the only thing the USA national anthem has going for it over canada's is that nice drop down in medley when they say "oh say can you see that star ...blah blah blah" in the last verse.

Being Canadian I'd have to give the nod to "Oh Canada". If you ever get bored with it you can sing it in English, Francais, or the super re-mixed English & Francais version;)

That being said I think that the Star Spangled Banner sounds more patriotic...a kind of song people could rally behind.

I like the Star Spangled Banner, especially when cannons and explosions are in it. It makes you feel proud and patriotic.:D You just want to run out and take over Canada when it?s done playing.;)

Kilgor - We've hidden a ground-based Canadarm in every border office, armed with 15 vulcan cannons each. Keep your murderous people out of our pristine wilderness. :p

you know what's funny...
there's a part of the star spangled banner that sounds like "we wish you a merry christmas".
I remember laughing the first time I heard it (in grade 1 probably).

please don't flame me or anything. cuz I was only in gr.1!!!

Hey you guys owe the American national Anthem to us Canadians (well really the British). It would have never been made (the song from a poem) if the British had not attacked Washington and burned the White House :D.

I like the good ol 'Oh Canada' just because I Am Canadian :D

Cheers,

Any other opinions allowed??

I have always thought that the French National Anthem, La Marseillaise(sp?) was the most stirring that I've heard.

You actually like The Mayonnaise? OK.

Actually, the American and Canadian anthems are the only ones I know by heart. Of course, both anthems have caused problems for anthem singers on both sides of the border, whether it be their own or not. We changed O Canada back in the early eighties, adding something about "God keeping our land" to avoid repeating ourselves unneccessarily during the final verses (which I think we still do anyway). That has stumped an entire generation of Canadians, including Bryan Adams, who does not live in Canada anyway.

In the end, they're both good anthems. I am more partial to O Canada, but I still like the part in Star Spangled Banner where you go on about our inept job of firebombing your capital.

Regards,
Craig

I wouldn't listen to any of them in my walkman, but musically I think the american anthem is more catching. Our song is pretty lame, got no beat in it:)

Growing up in Detroit, I went to a ton of hockey games. Whenever the Red Wings played a Canadian team they would sing both anthems. Oh Canada sounds soo much better than the star spangled banner. I like the words to ours, but the song itself just sounds kinda stupid...
