I see lots of rumors and implied info all around the web, but very little solid or confirmed info. The Wiki page has some info, but I dont trust wiki that much.
For those of you who dont know what I'm talking about, a fellow named American McGee (real name) made a delightful little game a few years ago called Alice. Imagine if Tim Burton was to interpret the Alice in Wonderland tale, now make it R-rated, now put it into a video game.
GOOD STUFF!!

Shortly afterwards we were teased with hints and rumors of the same group doing an Oz game, but it sat around for a while. Current info is that ol' boy cant get any publishers interested and has to do a movie just to make people pay attention to it.
Another neat little internet story (which may or may not be true) is Jerry Bruckheimer wants to work on the movie. Of course, this is the same guy who promised to work on a Rifts movie way back when and hasnt even started yet. (Visit the Palladium Books website if you dont know what I'm talking about.)

Since we have mostly half-assed reports from shady sources, I want to know what the opinions are on Anandtech.
Should it be done? If so how? What do you wanna see? What do you not wanna see? What did you like about Alice?

Me?
I really want two new games from this guy. I loved the way Alice played, it wasnt just a pure shooter. It had some nice graphic adventure elements too. I'd like to see that in the new games. Maybe even an inventory system and a freeform world like the Elder Scrolls series. But perhaps thats too much.
I will say one thing most seriously, I do NOT want them to piss away lots of time and money on the latest and greates graphics engine. I want a good game. Graphics always come second to quality of play, though in recent years it seems most companies have forgotten that.
Alice did very well with the Quake 3 engine. The new ones could use The Unreal 2 engine (or Unreal Engine 2 if you prefer). Or Doom3. Or Source.
Something thats been around a little while and is established. Cheaper and fewer issues down the road. Thats how I see a good game being made.

Wow, Alice. It's been awhile since I played that. I'm not sure I can specify why I liked it, but I did. I'm generally not a fan of 3rd person games, but I had a great time with that one. I guess what I liked about it was the surrealism. Most games are fanciful to some extent or another, but Alice took it to a whole new level. I'd love to see it remade with a newer engine

That was a great game... That is what this market is missing... Ya know? We have all these WW2 games and crap... It is like ish, lets move away from reality. We have enough war in this world as it is... Seems like 50% of the games on the shelves are WW2, Vietnam or Iraq war related... Gets REAL old...

Anyway, I was thinking about that game not to long ago... What a great little game. Know what else was REALLY cool? Remember MDK2? That game was of the same type and totally rad!

Now I am sad, cuz no more games are like that anymore - except possibly this new BioShock.

Alice came out around the same time FAKK2 came out on the Quake3 engine. The Quake3 engine had some really unique projects.

American McGee's Alice was a fairly unique game, but I don't think I ever beat it . I can just imagine how crazy Alice or another twisted story would look in the Unreal Engine 3 :Q!

I loved Alice! Beheading playing card soldiers with, well, playing cards :D

I hope he makes another game. I heard a rumor a while ago Alice was set to be made into a movie. Is this true?

Alice, what a great game. Also did not finish it :( I should reload and try again.

Also sort-of on topic: Sci-Fi is suppose to have a "Oz" based dark tale, called Tin Man, this year. I hope it's good.

i loved this game. beat it twice! i love the weapon where i could freeze people. though the ultimate weapon was awesome too. but nothing beats owning people in the beginning with the kitchen knife.

All I wanna see is a PC exclusive, but that'll never happen. This thread and the youtube speedrun in 2 parts inspired me to load this up again. Played thru in 2000 on a gf2 MX 400. Looks a whole lot better than I remember it, tho maybe it's the gf ti4600. Very unique game. Good story, twisted graphics & hard as hell, but in a good sort of way. Tho I ordinarily hate jumping/climbing puzzles, these element are quite well done in Alice.

The Q3 Arena engine provides sufficient eye candy for my taste. Would be nice if McGee could come thru w/an OZ PC exclusive, even using the Q3A game engine. Would be interesting to see what he could do w/the 1949 film version of The Secret Garden, even Gulliver's Travels.

To hell w/cross-platform crap. Dark Seed II and Realms of the Haunting are still fun. DOSBox forever!

Alice was a great game but unfortunately I lost the CD sleeve with the key on it. I have the 2 set up CD's but cannot find the key on any of them. Is the key code somewheres on one of the CD's and where?

I believe that the keycode is on the jewel case (on the paper sandwiched between the two plastic pieces). I just saw mine in the closet a few weeks ago. Maybe I'll install it on my new rig I have coming and see if I can actually finish it!
