I see lots of rumors and implied info all around the web, but very little solid or confirmed info. The Wiki page has some info, but I dont trust wiki that much.
For those of you who dont know what I'm talking about, a fellow named American McGee (real name) made a delightful little game a few years ago called Alice. Imagine if Tim Burton was to interpret the Alice in Wonderland tale, now make it R-rated, now put it into a video game.
GOOD STUFF!!
Shortly afterwards we were teased with hints and rumors of the same group doing an Oz game, but it sat around for a while. Current info is that ol' boy cant get any publishers interested and has to do a movie just to make people pay attention to it.
Another neat little internet story (which may or may not be true) is Jerry Bruckheimer wants to work on the movie. Of course, this is the same guy who promised to work on a Rifts movie way back when and hasnt even started yet. (Visit the Palladium Books website if you dont know what I'm talking about.)
Since we have mostly half-assed reports from shady sources, I want to know what the opinions are on Anandtech.
Should it be done? If so how? What do you wanna see? What do you not wanna see? What did you like about Alice?
Me?
I really want two new games from this guy. I loved the way Alice played, it wasnt just a pure shooter. It had some nice graphic adventure elements too. I'd like to see that in the new games. Maybe even an inventory system and a freeform world like the Elder Scrolls series. But perhaps thats too much.
I will say one thing most seriously, I do NOT want them to piss away lots of time and money on the latest and greates graphics engine. I want a good game. Graphics always come second to quality of play, though in recent years it seems most companies have forgotten that.
Alice did very well with the Quake 3 engine. The new ones could use The Unreal 2 engine (or Unreal Engine 2 if you prefer). Or Doom3. Or Source.
Something thats been around a little while and is established. Cheaper and fewer issues down the road. Thats how I see a good game being made.
