I was not nearly as impressed with Fantasia as everyone else... This isn't a racial thing but I am sure I will get that thrown at me but her poor speech screamed through her singing. I was completely distracted. I think Katy and that 16 year old.

She was alright too, imho the only two that took a chance and really stood out were the two I picked. Everybody else was ok, but there was no passion or emotion...totally dry, hope the next eight are better.

I say Fantasia and Erskine will go on but I really hope that 16 year old, Dianna, makes it, she can REALLY sing imo. The rest were ok. Katie looked good, but what's up with some of the songs they picked. They say "i want to change it up" or "I picked something different that I really liked". Well guess what people, this is Americal Idol and it is really a pop idol. Look at your voters, do you think they care if you can sing jazz? Do you think the voters for pop idol want to hear some boring broadway song? Nope, they want fun pop and/or pop ballads. Anyway enough ranting about how the contestents must not watch previous shows or they simply are too dumb to learn.

I can't stand Fantasia. I thought the two best performers out of the group were Diana and Katie. Fantasia's voice drives me nuts (she's compared to Macy Gray and I would rather drive off a cliff than listen to Macy Gray). I see myself muting the TV when Fantasia sings in the future.

edit: On second thought, she's pretty rough on the eyes. I think I'll just leave the room and let my g/f watch her.

Out of everyone there, Katie picked the most challenging song and she pulled it off very well. I think that she could have performed a little better. She just didn't have as much emotion in her singing as Diana did.

Duh. She may not be the best singer out of all the contestants (though I think she is very good), but part of being a successful pop star is having the looks to back it up.
