Its not about perception, its about ratings. They found something that people watch, so they will repeat it until people are sick of it. TV has almost always been like that.

Ah yes...I like Arrested Development too. King of the Hill is only mildly amusing (I haven't watched it in a while), and Malcolm in the Middle I haven't watched in a few years either, so I don't know.
