American Horror story: any good and where to start?

I have many mixed feelings about ryan murphy - some of glee is spot on, most of it is awful. He makes awful julia roberts movies but then scream queens is kinda fun, in a cartoonish way. I hear wildly mixed things about american horror story - is it worth investing time, or is it all garbage and noise? If so, start with season one or is there a better entry point? I heard 1 is terrible and 3 is the best one.

each season is it's own story, you can start anywhere.

i've only seen season 1 which was great, and part of season 2, which was also good.

S1 & 2 are fantastic, quite the mindf*** if you like that kind of storyline. I avoided S3 because it has to do with witches and those bore me :D S4 is the freakshow one and am meaning to see it and the currently airing S5, I saw the first episode this weekend and it's okay so far. I think S2 will always be my favorite though.

Season 1 and 2 are very good. 3, 4 and 5 are just... stupid. The show got very.... gay. I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way, the show just becomes very obviously created and written by a gay guy. Lots of eye rolling for me.

Hhaha, is it really theatrical and grand? I kind dig that, if it's like elton john meets gore, that could be kinda hilarious. Does it get progressively campier? Like I'm a big john waters fan, I guess I hung out with a lot of gays growing up and don't mind that part of him. I do get annoyed when he lectures and is on the nose.

The first two were really good. I gave up about halfway through season 3, the show jumped the shark really abruptly. That's the danger with anthology shows, they can be great if everything clicks, but they can go from awesome to awful instantly when a new season starts.

haha, I guess theatrical and grand is a better way to put it than 'gay'

For example this is part of an actual episode --

like... what? That's actually in season 2 which was pretty good overall IMO. Just gets weirder from there (also there is there is gay rape scene in the current season) o_O.

I agree with this.

I didn't care for S3 at all, the whole "which one of us will be the Supreme" was boring and silly. I liked S4 (Freak Show) in the beginning but its storyline ran out of steam.

I had no idea Ryan Murphy was one of the writers/director. Have any of you watched Nip/Tuck? Theatrical and grand (gay) was its calling card. It's funny, the wife and I started watching Hotel (season 5?) and it all felt weirdly familiar. Now I get why.

I got hooked on Coven, then went back and watched the first season but seems like I'm the only one who doesn't like it. Freakshow was alright, Hotel is OK but so hard to get over seeing Gaga. Best part is the episode reviews on TV.com, whoever does them is hilarious.

Season 3 and 4 blow. I haven't watched Season 5, but I'm basically done with the series now that they've chosen to go the route of sucking balls consistently.

The first season is supposed to be one of the best? I couldn't get through it. It just seemed to be dragging on with nothing much of interest happening.

I really enjoyed S1 and S2. S3 was OK and I disliked 4. I have mixed feeling about this season. It really feels like each week they just go out of theor way to see how shocking they can be. And none of it is shocking. It reminds me of all of the 90s commercials where everything was "EXTREME!"

It just feels like they try to hard to be controversial instead of telling a good story.

Well, it got renewed again.
FX has announced that they’re renewed American Horror Story for a sixth season. The as-yet-untitled season will air next year.
I don't like this season that much.

I agree with this totally. And also with the previous comments about it being kinda gay...well it is gay literally and figuratively. The figuratively part...I'm not really a fan of that style especially when they break out into actual songs, that pretty much caused me to be done with the series right there. And then the literally gay stuff...the gay sex, its a little over the top. And I get it, they're trying to be over the top. Anyways, thats my thoughts.

I've only seen season 1. Loved the atmosphere but the characters and acting were lackluster. If you're looking for a good show I'd recommend Fargo instead.

Weak as the current season has been I could at least find interest in the episodes, but this latest one is the first I actually struggled to get through. Really hope Gaga is gone next year.

I didnt like Season 2 or 4, but 1 and 3 were pretty good. In some ways Season 3 was kinda like a pilot for Scream Queens. I wont start on 5 until its finished.
