I like AE's Utility Jeans because they have a loose fit, but it doesn't look like you just took a crap in your pants.

AE's stuff feels kinda cheap. For $10 more get some A&F, or Express for Men
I normally get my jeans from either AE or Old Navy. I always wait till they go on clearance for $19.99 (no way in hell do I pair $50 for a pair of fuggin' jeans). In fact, I get just about all of my clothes on clearance. I see no need in paying full price when I can wait a few months and get them on sale. I've got a ton of clothes anyway.

A&F is out of the question b/c all they do is RAPE you on pricing. I walked into that store ONCE, and immiediately walked out when I saw what was essentially a t-shirt for $35.

I've got some AE pants that are about 4 years old and they still fit good and are still in good shape. Same goes for my 5 year old Old Navy pants.

i like the utility jeans from them too. if they have the ones without the rivets on the back pockets get those. i had 1 pair that i had for like 2 years without those and then i got a new pair and one of those dumb rivets ripped right out wrecking the pants.

Since it's apparent you've never worn a pair of A&F stuff, I'll just say that there is indeed a large difference in quality. I have pairs of shorts from Express, (formerly Structure) A&E, and A&F. Guess which 2 pairs feel like they were made with the cheapest textile, almost K-Mart quality?

In all fairness, all of my pants and most of my shirts from Express and A&F have been with a coupon/clearance though, so I'm with you on the whole "raping on price" thing, but the fact of the matter is A&F's clothing quality is leaps and bounds above it's competitors. Just like some people care about the quality of the interior of their vehicles, some people care about the quality of their clothing. :D

If my AE or Old Navy pants tore apart or disentegrated in the wash...then I'd be with you on the quality issues. But my pants have held up over the years and STILL look good. They're sturdy and hold up to abuse. So what's not to like?

As to the car comment...a $30,000 car purchase isn't easily comparable to a pair of $20 - $50 pants...but I'll try. That being said, this is how I would rank clothing:

K-Mart = GM interiors
A&E/Gap = VW Interiors
A&F = Audi interiors

I wouldn't be caught dead with K-Mart (GM), A&E/Gap will do and it's quite good, A&F (Audi) is nice, but sometimes priced a bit too high

I was making fun of you on the car interior comment :p Old Navy is a notch below both A&E and the Gap. And it's not all about tearing or disintegrating. You can look at a pair of pants and immediately tell "cheap" or "well made".

I buy most of my jeans at gap when they come on sale. I while back i got some BR jeans really cheap on sale too. I need jeans rite now, old navy is cheap, but i bought some mechanics jeans from there about 2 months ago, and they are already showing signs of stress and thread hanging off places....eh ...

I've had problems with A&F stuff falling apart. Yeah, it feels nice, but it gets torn to shreds if you actually DO stuff in your clothes.

I say put a pair of jeans on... if they really make the denim well (Mavis are my fav brand based on comfort and Ferengi hunt/shopping). They cost mebbe $3-4 more than Levis which I'd rank at same or slightly better than Gap/A&F/Old Navy. Mavis absolutely destroy them though in comfort and they look nice if you don't get some of the weirder styles.

Loose fits look nice too... I bought one pair with the vintage-look like the Gap and A&F jeans... Mavis felt immediately soft while in comparison, even my well-worn Levis at the time felt like sandpaper. Plus, I've had more than a few "nice pants" comments from girls. I've had a pair of boot cuts for 3 years now, held up better than my other jeans bought at the same time.

Once I tried the Mavis, it was no turning back... I still wear my Levis and my Old Navys find use when I'm doing the grimey stuff like working on the car and doing yard work. I buy my Mavis at Nordstroms when they have the big sales... otherwise, I'd kill myself for spending retail ($60-80?!?!) versus the marked down price of $32.

Old navy jeans are the only ones that conform to my unusually short legs. Besides, there is almost always a pair for about 20 dollars.

AE jeans are a waste of money. If i want my jeans to look worn and ripped, i'll wear them out myself, thank you.
