American Cops vs. Foreign Cops

As I was reading about the UK cops shooting a terrorist suspect (which turned out to be quite innocent) with 8 shots and killed him a few weeks ago, the case where 4 NYC cops shot 40 something bullets at an unarmed black dude a few years ago, and that was before 9/11. Are American cops just more trigger happy? Both tragic cases, might I add.

EDIT: The Brazilian dude was innocent. He was however running away from the cops whereas the NYC case was more of a confrontation.

I dont think any of us can comment as we are not cops and have no fvcking clue what its like to be put in that situation.

I fail to see how putting 40 bullets into someone that might have been "reaching for a gun" makes any sense whatsoever.

This is the correct answer. All the little armchair twerps would shiat their pants in those types of situations.

If you can't "comment" ironcrotch, I'm 🙁

Sheep! 😉

It seems that American cops shoot more often. But I think they might have more of a reason vs the UK. Our organized crime is a lot higher and cops (especially in a big city like NYC) are more jumpy.

Way to talk out of your a** gorcorps, I'm impressed!

It's a lot easier for someone to acquire a gun in America, so a cop would expect someone confronting them with a firearm instead of other countries that banned guns.

BTW, I don't hate cops. I donated to my state's PAL program and I appreciate the job cops do. I'm just trying to start a logical discussion on this topic, not to start a flamewar so please don't turn it into one.

Let's do some math. I know quite a few cops and I even used to know one of the regional tactical trainers. From what I have been told cops are trained to fire a minimum of 3 shots if they are required to use their weapon to increase the probability of hitting their target. If you have 8 cops that is a MINIMUM of 24 shots being fired. With adrenalin rushing, popping off 5 rounds would be rather easy and prudent if you feel you are in danger. I don't care how many holes the bad guys have in them as long as the cops are eating dinner with their children tomorrow.

Very few cops ever draw their weapon on duty and even less ever fire them. I personally know a cop who was forced by a suspect to fire his weapon when a gun was pointed at him, he fired 3 shots....only ONE hit the guy. Luckily the guy was incapacitated, unfortunately it was permanent, but my friend got to go home to his family that evening and that is all I care about.

You're still a sheep Ronstang; you're post is "boilerplate" IMO. Good Luck at debates bro

American cops are very very friendly compared to foreign cops...the stuff people get away with in the states is crazy. I come from Poland and used to live in Germany too, cops there anihilate you 😉

Do you think it was one cop emptying mags and reloading to pelt the body a little more?

British cops don't routinely carry guns on-duty.

Drawing is a lot more common than most people think. I can't remember how many times I've drawn my gun in the year I've been on the job.

But that's because you're triggerhappy 😉

Yeah, this "quite innocent" suspect was here on an expired Visa. He was wearing a jacket large enough to conceal explosives in an area where there were failed attacks previously.

The guy is an idiot, but at the same time it is unfortunate that he had to die.

And Ronstang is right, think about how bad this would have been had he done something...only for us to discover that the police officers were being too conservative with their fire. Either do it right or not at all. I think the policy should stay.

Brit cops don't carry guns usually.
When they do they use lightweight ammo in order to minimize risk to other civvies who happen to be around the area if the police to open fire.
They shot the guy 8 times in the head because they thought he was a suicide bomber and had to mkae sure he couldn't trigger a bomb. It's unfortunate, but you shouldn't run from the police if you're innocent in this day and age.

I've seen footage of US cops shooting at an unarmed man who simply did a runner from them. seemed insane.

I flew into Rome a few years ago, summer right before 9/11. Was surprised to see airport security walking around with fully auto machine guns. That was scary.

Oh, and cops have a right to be trigger happy. If someone is running from them with a black overcoat on in 90 degree weather right after a terrorist attack, then they have a right to gun them down. It's not like the cops could know he was innocent if he was frantically running from them. I'd have done the same as those London cops and have absolutely no sympathy for that guy. He might have been innocent but he's not innocent if he's running away for no reason...
