American charged in criminal court for firing an RPG

I'm surprised that is a crime. In Cambodia (and I'm sure many other places) you can pay to fire off RPGs and other military stuff for fun. IIRC RPGs were $40 a pop

I don't see how this is even possible, he was not on US soil so US laws do not apply, correct me if im wrong here.

Although I must admit the US is more than arrogant enough to think its laws apply world wide.

I think we're the only country to tax income on expatriates. Read some story where long term expats were giving up their citizenship because of it

If that's the accurate description, if a weapon of mass destruction is defined as "any explosive...", then in that case, the war in Iraq was fully justified because Saddam had grenades!!!

So according to US criminal law then there were weapons of mass destruction in Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Who would have known? Thanks 2timer for pointing this out and I'll be sure to cite it every time some pissy little lefty cries about it.

US Criminal law for individuals very different from US DoD definitions applied to nations.

Since when do US laws apply to other nations?

It certainly applies to US citizens residing in other countries and is nothing new (see: Taxes on ex-pats)

As long as you remain a citizen of the US you are still subject to US laws regardless of location. Law can change parameters when you are outside the country but you are not removed from the application of law simply because you are not in official boundaries. - much in the same way that you are still a US citizen even if you are outside our boarders. If your renounce citizenship and reside in another country then the laws do not apply to you. The US is certainly not the only country to do this
