You should go tell Turkey this. They would probably be very surprised to hear the news.

That proves his point. Turkey is not a democracy. Maybe one time it was, but now the religious conservatives are trying (and succeeding) in enforcing Islamic traditions on a formerly secular country.

...and so are certain Christians trying to do in the US.

Haha, if religious conservatives enforcing their traditions on a country makes it not a democracy the U.S. isn't a democracy either.

Turkey is a democracy by any rational standard.

If you've been paying attention, Turkey is very much headed in the wrong direction with islamists in power. It will only be a matter of time.

Long term islam is not compatible with freedom and democracy.

"certain Christians" trying to do something is not comparable. If you had the US taking a strong turn away from democratic principles in favor of religious theocratic rule, then you'd have a point.

Turkey is a democracy ..... for now. It's quickly sliding into the abyss, which is why the EU won't accept their membership.

It's just a matter of progression.

Lets assume there are 1.6 billion Christians. How many of them are beheading civilians? Let's assume 16. That would be 0.0000001% of Christians.

By these eatmiates, Islam has a 100,000x higher chance of beheadings. The p-value of that comparison would be significant as fuck. That is what people are pointing out. The disproportionate violence that Islam has that the other major religions do not.

It's way more than that. And they use guns and wear badges.

Yes, and I think discussion of whether Turkey is a democracy or not misses the point.

Under a true democracy the majority can suppress the minority.

A nation, whether purely democratic or republic in nature, needs to have enumerated rights that are protected for all.

I'm afraid we're kind of confusing the guarantee of rights with the concept of democracy. And I'm afraid that turkey will use democratic means (elections etc) to further empower the Islamic majority and suppress the non-Islamic minority and other dissidents.

Arab countries seem to have a problem avoiding the slide into dictatorship no matter their starting point. While technically not Arab, I expect we'll see this with Turkey (Islamo-dictatorship).

ban religion.

Religion should not be confused with organized religion. Don't tell me that Hinduism, Buddhism and other religions are not full of deep meaning that when followed truly can bring a different world. Unfortunately, what we have are people who belong to organized religions and wear the t-shirt of that team.

It was in the Bible it is said that one should pray in private.

Muslim and Christian are just a like. Muslims and Christian love going around telling people they are going to burn in hell, they love controlling lives of others, and they love killing for their blood lust god.
