An American man on Monday admitted to charges of murder and rape after he allegedly pushed two U.S. women down a ravine, fatally injuring one of them near Germany’s Neuschwanstein castle last year.

The attack happened on June 14 last year near the Marienbruecke, a bridge over a gorge close to the castle that offers a view of Neuschwanstein, one of Germany’s most famous tourist attractions.

Prosecutors say the defendant met by chance the two female tourists, aged 21 and 22, on a hiking path and lured them off the trail. They said in a statement that he apparently first forced the younger woman to the ground and tried to undress her.

When the elder woman tried to help her, a scuffle ensued and the suspect allegedly pushed her down a steep slope. She fell about 50 meters (165 feet) and sustained a head injury, bruises and grazes but survived.

The suspect then allegedly strangled the younger woman until she was unconscious and raped her, prosecutors said, before pushing her down the slope as well. She died.

Authorities say the women didn’t know the man before they met near Neuschwanstein. The suspect was arrested shortly after the attack.

RIP to the victims and prayers to their families and the recovery of the 1 survivor.

When traveling.. it's important to remember just because someone is an American, that doesn't make them your friend!

Use your instincts and always have an escape plan to get out of a bad situation. Be on your guard while travelling.

How soon before countries start blocking American tourists like we’re terrorists?

On a side note, when I was younger I did that hike and my travel partner at the time, both decided it was a good idea to go off path and climb back up. Needless to say, the hike leads to a dead end, a waterfall to be exact. So we had to climb up the side to get to the trail path. It was pretty steep and loose and he climbed ahead of me. He slipped and started sliding past me and I thought for sure he was a goner. Luckily there was a little rock sticking out that he landed on. Luckily we both were able to make it up but I look back on that day and can’t help but say, “stupid kids”. But maybe it’s really just “stupid Americans”.

Starting in 2025, U.S. passport holders traveling to Europe will need to apply for authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before their visit.

Reminds me of this girl in this video.. I need a visa to go to the toilet..

That'll be us soon enough!

Not all people from Michigan are bad, I am from MI.

TBH, it got bad when Newt Gingrich, Bill Clinton, and Fox News all coalesced around that time.

Sure there are bad ppl everywhere, bad cities, bad neighborhoods, but the the are BAD LEADERS, I'm talking about the time when John Engler became Governor, which aligns with the above paragraph.

Then you had the militia shit starting to spring up (nowhere near Metro Detroit) just a FYI.

That asshole from AMWAY, Betsy Devos's husband tried to run for Governor, I think that was when Jennifer Granholm won. But Engler had at least an 8 yr run to f things up.

Didn't help you had Gil Hill being more corrupt then his character in Beverly Hills Cop, Detroit had one good guy in between, this is Police dept.
Had Coleman Young, decent afair.

Then Ole Kwami Kilpatrick became Detroit mayor, corrupt as fuck, got himself in prison he did.

So know I am in KY, small town, just as bad, corrupt wise. We had a State Auditor come a couple years ago and determined the water system needed upgrades / repairs.
So previously elected mayor resigned at 1st of year. We had the cold snap many lines broke, some areas were without water for 9 days.
Interim Mayor comes in, cannot find anything about the audit and state/ and or federal money sent to aide repairs, NO records of it at all. Was in the local paper.

Good old country boy system here. Honestly I preferred Metro Detroit. Alot nicer to be more anonymous.

Really messed up, we went there a couple years before this happened and it was pretty amazing, can't imagine having such a cool experience turn into a nightmare like that. What's kind of weird toe is that's a huge tourist spot so I don't know how there wasn't anyone else around to stop this but I guess it's not always crazy busy but when went you could barely get around on that bridge it was so packed.
