LA PAZ, Bolivia - Bombs exploded inside two low-budget hotels in Bolivia's capital overnight, killing two people and wounding seven, police said Wednesday. An American was among those arrested.

The explosions occurred Tuesday night and early Wednesday in the historic city center. Police commander Oscar Nina said it was "a case typical of terrorist crime."

Two people ? an American and a Uruguayan ? were arrested early Wednesday in connection with the bombings, La Paz district attorney Jorge Gutierrez said.

Police planned a news conference later Wednesday to provide more details.

The deaths were caused by the first explosion, Nina said. Police evacuated the second hotel before the blast there.

"The theory we're working on is that both cases are related because bombs were placed inside" the hotels, Nina told reporters.

Hmmm. an American arrested. I would be very interested in looking at the transcripts for this investigation to see what the person arrested says.

An American? Oh, my! That narrows it down to Canada, U.S.A, Mexico, Panama, Peru, etc.

Huh? I'm sure if it was anything else other than the US, they would have said Canadian, Mexican, Panamanian, or Peruvian, or etc. Uraguay is in South America and they identified his nationality as Uraguayan.

In Spanish individuals from the United States are, literally translated, referred to as "United Statesians" (estado-unidense) or North Americans. American means anyone from North, South, or Central America to a Spanish-speaker.

Police said the American gave various names for himself, including Claudio Lestad, 25, of New Orleans. The Uruguayan was identified as Alda Ribeiro, 40. Police said the couple were arrested early Wednesday in a hotel in the neighboring slum city of El Alto.

The picture looks like that geek that Aimster used to have as a picture of himself (but it wasn't really him)
