America was able to retool factories to build weapons, b29's, and tanks in World War II, why aren't we able to provide for medical workers?

All I keep hearing from friends who are nurses and doctors is that they have run out of personal protective equipment.

Even tho it's too late to be ahead of the curve at this point, do you think the administration will get off their ass and provide funding for factories to start producing our own instead of procuring from China?
In the short term there will at least be incentives to move some manufacturing back to the US. I doubt it will last long or be very much, but it will happen. How long it lasts will depend on how short our memories are.
We love cheap foreign made crap, the bulk of our production is based on cheap labor supplied by a disposable workforce without environmental or safety concerns. Because of that, a US factory making the same product will have to be subsidized or protected by import tariffs, and the public will have to accept that stuff is going to cost more.

I'll pose the same question you to that conservatives pose to liberals whenever they bring this up: why do you hate america?

Looks like @soulcougher73 busted you. Better go back to Trump for more talking points. We'll be waiting
He clearly says 'it's their new hoax' referring to all the failed attempts by the Democrats to discredit or frame him.
Democrats are trying to pin this on all Trump and are failing as polls have shown.

"it's their new hoax" is the same as outright calling it bullshit. Guess what, dear leader ignored this for 6 weeks after the first reported U.S. case. Trump may not own everything in the U.S. regarding this, and yet...he remains the POTUS that conservatives elected to lead our country....and he's doing it the same way he's conducted his businesses for decades. I'm sure you know what that means...if you don't, time to educate yourself.

Silly question. In WW2 we had an intelligent govt that took decisive actions. Today well we have a non-govt that is good with words and lousy with actions.

You want some hindsight? How about not voting for someone so incompetent whose business ventures either all failed or relied on fraud, scams, or bribing elected officials? How about not voting for someone whose greatest accomplishment was putting his name on other people’s work.

Hindsight is realizing you fucked up when you voted for a billionaire who can’t even fake tan and dress right.

Elon Musk is doing his part to help. Tesla is going to start building ventilators and donating N95 masks to hospitals.

so is GM. some aerospace electronics companies are making parts. i know this because a company that was started by some alum of my school is ramping up production. GM is assembling. but all hail our lord and savior Elon because he is the only one doing anything.

Harbor freight is donating its entire stock and supply chain of PPE to hospitals. all hail elon.

Ford is working on making PPE and vents.

so are lots of other companies, making things, helping in anyway they can. but we we only write about people that the media loves. all hail Elon.

Why is Trump the first President in history that needs a full time staffer to tell people what he really meant?

In this case he was clear, he was talking about COVID-19 being a hoax. It goes along with Fox News calling it coronavirus impeachment hoax. Attempting to use a non-existent pandemic to get Trump.

Hindsight is 20/20.

We invoked our Pandemic Response Team a month ago at my company.

Trump has been getting the best intel on the planet, and has known since December.

It's really inexcusable the feds are still dithering.

If HC workers don't get sufficient PPE soon, you are daring them to walk off else risk their lives.

This is not quite true. Realistically the US didn't start responding until the first week of Jan. when cdc started preparing. So I would have expected a wise president to start working on logisitics and test kits by the 2nd or 3rd week of Jan - maybe first week of Feb. Still by mid feb every airport should have been testing arriving international passengers as standard procedure and a plan should have been in place in case the disease escape containment.

50% approval numbers during a disaster is actually a disaster.

You suggested it was clear to him in December that there was a problem that required action.... I don't think it was understood to be a serious issue until sometime in Jan - having said that it is quasi well known that Trump is incapable of following briefings. He needs folks to show him pretty pictures but even then it is questionable that he has a cognitive understanding of very much. Just look what he did in Syria in which he suggested we should send in american companies to pump Syrian oil... now that was hilarious

[he pulled us troops out on a whim; causing more than 10,000 kurd alies to be killed; then he was talked into sending troops back to 'safe guard' the oil in the northern tip and then he publicly suggested that we would send exon in to pump oil as justification for sending troops back]

Anyway it is what it is americans can be pretty inept at picking their presidents; but to be honest as awful it is at least he hasn't launch nukes at canada.... yet.

What part is "not quite true"?

I just had a morbid thought that made me laugh. I know, I feel guilty. I was wondering what his grave would say.

Something like "He was a tremendous president, the best really, everyone will tell you he was just ask anybody and they will tell you. Just the best at all the things and you know economy. Heaven is bigly and tremendously happy to host him now and he'll probably be asked to take over even though he really doesn't want to but if enough saints and angels ask him to he will. You know if he does, Heaven's stock market will just be through the roof this thing will just rebound like nobody's business and he will smite CHIYnuh and jobs will come streaming back to America."

Elon already delivered over 500,000 3M N95 masks to US hospitals and over 1,200 ventilators. How many has GM and Ford delivered so far?

If you are going to use that as an example you may want to read up on the warning signs before pearl harbor happened where they were warned as early as January almost a full year earlier to understand they had a major failure also and what lead up to that attack that help bring it about.
