A display of impressive common humanity and even more impressive common sense broke out over the weekend in Dearborn, Mich. after Muslim parent Majed Moughni complained about flyers handed out at public schools advertising an “Eggstravaganza!” Easter egg hunt to be held at a Presbyterian church.
According to The Arab American News, a local bilingual newspaper, the Detroit Free Press first reported that Muslim parents — plural — were upset about the flyer advertising an Easter egg hunt at the church.

Turns out, it was only one parent, Dearborn-based lawyer Moughni, who complained.
On Sunday morning, Muslim leaders in the Muslim community stood together in solidarity in front of the Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church in Dearborn.

Included in the delegation of Muslims were religious leaders, business leaders and representatives from a number of organizations including the Arab Civil Rights League and the American-Arab Anti Discrimination Committee.

Together with the Muslim leaders, Cherry Hill Presbyterian’s pastor, Neeta Nichols, denounced Moughni’s complaint about the Easter egg hunt. Nichols and the Muslim leaders also urged area Muslims to come to the Eggstravaganza!” and have their children participate.
The Muslim delegation donated $500 to the church. The money will go toward the purchase of even more eggs.
The Saturday, April 12 event will feature a traditional Easter egg hunt as well as an egg toss and a relay race.

The flyers for the event which had so offended Moughni were emblazoned with the word “Eggstravaganza!” They urged students to RSVP “to secure your free spot.” The associated imagery includes a festive bunny and some eggs.

Moughni had asserted that the flyers passed out at three Dearborn public schools violate the separation of church and state widely ascribed to the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause.

The local backlash was fast and furious after Moughni complained, notes The Arab American News. Local Muslims took to social media by the hundreds to condemn his puzzling stance against Easter egg hunts for kids—and to condemn the Detroit Free Press for publishing what they viewed as a misleading article in the first place.

Moughni is a retard because he doesnt realize that religion cant be 100% separated from the State.

Did this need its own thread?

Why not just update the thread you already started about this issue?

I like it when common sense prevails and issues get resolved the way it did.

Make me wonder though, can this only happen in countries like the USA as opposed to having something like this happening in a society that is heavily influenced by religious dogma or those governments that are theocratic in nature?

I suppose the degree of reaction to an "easter egg hunt" would correlate with how much religious significance one applies to it.

Hopefully the church members remember this when the mosque holds an analogous event in the future that's basically secular even if it has religious roots, e.g. a kid's event coinciding with Eid-al-Fitr or something.

What makes you think this resolution can always happen in the US? Guess you've not been paying attention to Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma, etc., where Christian dogma and its proponents are pushing those Bible belt states into becoming theocracies?

Sugar is more important than faith!

Put some quotes from the Quran and some jewish quotes in there to keep everyone happy as well as famous Quotations from literature. Do you mean there were no athiests complaining about the Pagan fertilitility God?

This is just a reason to get the public to buy chocolate bunnies and peeps and other useless sugar candy that give your child Diabetes.

I've generally found the muslims and christians in and around the Dearborn area to have a pretty amicable relationship so its good to see that that remains the case

Did not know egg hunts were anything other then a Christian borrowed Pagan Ceremony that has turned into a purely Commercial Holiday.

Something tells me the complaint was a false flag operation.

This whole thing was a ploy to make it "appear" that the vast number of muslims in Dearborne are tolerate.

For those of you who do not know, there were a number of arrest and criminal charges against christians preaching at Arab Fest in Dearborn, Michigan.

http://christiannews.net/2013/05/07...stians-evangelizing-muslims-at-arab-festival/

One year Christians are handing out scripture on public property outside the exit and entrance of Arab Fest. Police show up and harass the Christians.

The next year, police tell the Christians they have to stand on the other side of a highway. It was something like 100, 200 yards the police ordered the Christians to stay away from Arab fest.

There is a youtube video of Christians being arrested inside Arab fest for nothing more than talking and asking questions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkfVAeG3rn4

Why all of a sudden a change of heart? The muslim community did not mind the people from Acts 17 Apologetics being arrested and charged with a crime, which they were found innocent of.

But all of a sudden the Muslim community is in support of Easter?

Things do not equal out. Why have Christians arrested and charged with a crime, then turn around and support Christian activities?

What is going on here is a ploy. The Dearborn muslim community has been receiving so much bad press over the past few years they need to do something to make themselves look good.

Muslims are allowed to lie to unbelievers, especially to promote islam. I feel we are being lied to about this whole situation.

A vast number are. Not everyone is like you and get along, while people like you would rather drag a guy behind your truck because you didn't like his skin color.
