I wondered what people's opinions of the message of this song. It's called, "America Is Not The World" by Morrissey (who is British).

-----------------------------------------------------------
America your head's too big,
Because America, Your belly's too big
And I love you, I just wish you'd stay where you is.

In America, The land of the free, they said,
And of opportunity, In a just and a truthful way
But where the president, Is never black, female or gay,
And until that day you've got nothing to say to me, To help me believe

In America, It brought you the hamburger,
Well America you know where, You can shove your hamburger
And don't you wonder, Why in Estonia they say, Hey you, Big fat pig, You fat pig, You fat pig

Steely Blue eyes with no love in them, Scan The World,
And a humourless smile, With no warmth within, Greets the world
And I, I have got nothing, To offer you
No-no-no-no-no
Just this heart deep and true, Which you say you don't need

See with your eyes, Touch with your hands, please, Hear through your ears, Know in your soul, please
For haven't you me with you now?

And I love you, I love you, I love you, And I love you, I love you, I love you

LOL. I don't think he's referencing the war in that song, but he does in his new album.

You've got to be kidding me. I mean, I thought I hated Morrissey... and I hadn't even heard this garbage before. Now I ultra-hate him.

Never in the past have I been much of a Morrissey fan, but this whole album is good. This one is good too.

Irish Blood, English Heart

Irish blood, English heart, this I'm made of
There is no-one on earth I'm afraid of
And no regime can buy or sell me

I've been dreaming of a time when
To be English is not to be baneful
To be standing by the flag not feeling
Shameful, racist or partial

Irish blood, English heart, this I'm made of
There is no-one on earth I'm afraid of
And I will die with both my hands untied

I've been dreaming of a time when
The English are sick to death of Labour
And Tories, and spit upon the name of Oliver Cromwell
And denounce this royal line that still salute him
And will salute him forever

That would put it on the same level at some of Bush's speeches. ;)

That line might work if he actually writes all his speeches.

Granted. I guess it's his delivery of said speeches. That said, he seemed almost eloquent during the SOTU. Well compared to some of his past attempts.

I suppose you can say practice makes perfect (almost).

There should be a minimum age for posting in P&N.

There needs to be an IQ minimum for posting in P&N.

Since you seem to know everything, please tell me what the age limit should be.

Whats really stupid is the americans who have their heads so far up their asses they don't realize its exactly them he is talking about.

Welcome to reality, this is how the world views us nowdays. We are not in a isolated box, and no, america is not the world.

Morrissey has been annoying at times but he uncannily has his finger on the pulse of the mainstream, which is why he is pretty much a superstar worldwide.

Granted, american pop and culture is pretty dumbed down consumerist stuff, so a lot of americans will just pass him off not getting his usual wit and tounge in cheek lyrics.

This song reminds me of the stink that was made about the song from "Kill Uncle" where he said "We look to Los Angeles for the words that we speak, London is dead"

American culture is bankrupt, and the world is distancing themselves as we speak in a lot of ways.

Umm, no? I have been to many European countries, and they like us, even in France. Oh, I must not know what I'm talking about, right? It is the governments that mainly don't like our current government (President) all that much. Most of the people like us just fine, though the writer was kind of right when he said that we are lost in our own little bubble. We, or most of us, hardly pay any attention to other nations unless there are bombings or wars. And half their music is ours, even if they don't understand English, and the other half is imitating it. Oh, and we are free. Just because our nation has never chosen a female or black President (I will almost leave if ever a gay is even on the ballot, I think) does not mean that we are not free. This guy is way off base.

Wrong, half of "our" music the world assimilates is a african american creation, and even that nowdays is a tool of big corporate money. (rap)

the rest of the worlds music has long since moved on as our music has turned into bubble gum radio and covers of covers of a freer age of american music.

If you are anything about cutting edge, the first thing you would do is move out of this country, there is no market for it.

He is exactly right and those who haven't lived overseas likely won't be able to understand why.

For those of you who haven't lived outside the US, yet can understand Morrisey's point, I congratulate you on the ability to think past your red, white and blue programming while still surrounded by it.
It wasn't until I lived outside the US for sometime that I started to recognize the amount of nationalistic and militaristic rhetoric and symbolism we Americans are bombarded with.
