Why is it, that the movie "Independence Day" ended when it did. I mean those large alien ships crashed to the ground.

There would have been survivors. Combat would gone from being aerial to ground.

Human soldiers would have to move in fast to secure and imprison any alien survivors, before the survivors could rally themselves for a land counter attack. Then what about alien technology? It would have been cool to see geoff goldbloom fire some alien hand held phasors.

You have disappointed me American movie industry

If you can find them at your library or book store...

Steven Molstad did a series of books which expanded the story..

Yes, but then the movie would have been a lot longer...and it's already over 2 hours.

Pretty much the reason why I've only seen LOTR: Return of the King once. My patience and attention span was waning towards the end.

That would require another movie, and IIRC somebody is making either a prequel or sequel.

hmm interesting, I remember I had (may still have) the Issue #0 comic of Independence day. No idea how I got it but it showed more of Area51 before the aliens landed IIRC.

You think anything in the space ships will survive the impact? Shit, they all turned into pulp.

Come on Moosie...coming from a country whose contributions to movie making are pretty much limited to Mad Max and Crocodile Dundee...you just don't have the right to criticize American movies at all...

If the saucer is landing at a significant angle, that's a damn large crumple zone for those in the aft sections.

I thought about any of those small alien fighter spacecraft. Surely there would have still been some of them flying around out there, and I'd expect them to get their shields back up eventually - either while engaging Earth air forces, or else they'd quick fly away, such as up to low-Earth orbit, and fix the shields. Then they move about with virtual impunity, with the exception of the occasional jostling from a surface-to-air missile or two.

1. the mother ship was gone, blown to smithereens
2. the city blaster ship had rippling explosions go through it, before it crashed. from that, we can assume that everything inside was blown up as well, and every ship that went down in a similar fashion went through the same destruction (remember Robert Loggia's line? "Gen. Gray: Get on the wire, tell them how to bring those sons of bitches down.", which happened AFTER they blew up the ship attacking Area 51).
3. the fighter ship that was taken to the mother ship didn't have any power until the aliens showed up in orbit. from that, we can surmise that as soon as the mother ship and city blaster ships went down, the fighters lost their source of power, and would no longer fly (we already knew they lost their shields, once the mother ship was gone).

This pretty much keeps too many aliens from surviving the crashes of the city blaster ships, and keeps the fighters from flying (not to mention the pilots of those ships probably die when they crash land).

There might be a few survivors, but certainly not enough that land battle would ensue, unless we assume they had already landed some of their infantry carrier ships. IMHO, a pretty big assumption, since they were still loading them on the mothership when it blew up.

What could be cool would be the scientific discoveries that might spring up, after they go through the crashed alien vessels. Personally, I think an awesome sequel would be 30+ years later, when Earth, bent on vengeance, constructs their own vessels to travel back to the alien's mother world, to give some good old fashioned Earth man payback!! :awe:

I like this. Might as well just make the Ender's Game movie instead though.
