Fox Sports
Rockets center Yao Ming is being accused of disloyalty to China's Olympic team, according to a report in Toronto's Globe and Mail. And his actions have reportedly made China reconsider sending its players to the NBA.
---
Yao was "an obedient child" with a "very good reputation," an official was quoted as saying. "Now, he has changed, he's more like an American, he dares to say anything."
---
"I'm disappointed in my teammates," Yao said. "We gave up at the end of the game. I don't think some of my teammates cherish the honor to play for the country. ... Were they nervous? Or they would not take their responsibilities? We gave up easily every time we came across obstacles."
Hmm . . . well that does sound like the American team . . .

Many Chinese fans came to Yao's defense, saying the star was only being honest. "Yao Ming is not always right, but in this case he is absolutely right," one fan wrote on a Chinese website. "The truth may hurt someone, but is it wrong to tell the truth?"
I hope that guy posted anonymously . . .

Really? I thought they were pulling it together after the Puerto Rico debacle.

The Chinese are pretty hilarious with the "obedient child" bit. Wow. It must be interesting to live there.

Back offtopic, the Celizic commentaries over at MSNBC have really been annoying me. After PR he claimed the U.S. could never play legit basketball, had absolutely no chance of medaling, the sky was fallling, etc.... He also claimed the U.S. had no chance of winning the medal count. Not that I really care, but, damn, he ought to not be so knee-jerk. Both of his predictions will most likely be proved wrong. Sorry for the OT.

Edit: Fox Sports??? You read Fox Sports? :D What's that, the right-wing sports network? ;)

So it's okay for the Chinese badminton pair to act like total jackasses to the Britons, but criticism for them is unacceptable?

Not surprising, really, or wrong since shame and honor is a large part of Chinese culture.

I'm a huge supporter of the Team USA coaching contingent (Larry Brown, Roy Williams, Rudy Tomjanovich) but that "team" has an excess of prima donnas. Charles Barkley gave an excellent assessment of the team (bunch of scoring egos but no real talent/skill at anything else).

FOXSports is less tainted than the other FOX outlets. The only place you find "left-wing" sports is OLN and Lifetime.

They were the only pro's willing to go. With the exception of Duncan and Iverson, the rest of the best said, no.

Ya think the team might be better if we fielded the best american players? think maybe Shaq might make a difference? or perhaps Reggie Miller. Gah, this is why I hate the NBA and don't watch it anymore. Basketball is dead to me.

When does the NFL season start? Go Broncos!

note in china, they can only have 1 obedient child per family. its the law.

"I'm disappointed in my teammates," Yao said. "We gave up at the end of the game. I don't think some of my teammates cherish..."

sounds like rudy t, patrick ewing, and van gundy taught him right. now lets hope him and t-mac bring home the championship next season while the lakers are still utterly confused

The problem is we fielded the best players we could, but we didn't field the best team. No one is a good shooter, no one is a true point. The team just doesn't mesh well for olympic rules.
