AMD's next price drop - Its overdue, but whens it happnin'?

I've been holding off buying my T-bird cause i heard that AMD were dropping prices at the end of July.

Intel have just dropped their prices here in the UK in the last few days, but does anyone know when AMD are dropping the prices on theirs?

Don't recall precisely, but didn't the Register claim a %40 drop on July 29?

Yeah, july 29th is the expected price drop I believe. I've also heard there is supposed to be another price drop on September 5th.. 800MHz Athlon will supposedly cost 180$ :Q 🙂

I noticed last time in the UK it took about a week until we actually saw the reductions

I will just add that I also remember July 29th as the big day. I will also add that I hate waiting for price drops, it drives me crazy. As soon as the price drops I say that I am going to buy and people tell me to wait because that price is going to drop again, or a new product is going to come out and make that one I am going to buy obsolete.

I think you are going to be disappointed. In the press conference, Jerry Sanders said there is not going to be any more price cutting. AMD is actually aiming to raise the ASP (avg. selling price) of their CPU's. They have to because their profit margins are horrible, about half of what Intel's margins are.

Also, not to be a killjoy, and I own AMD stock, but I think the big part of the &quot;run&quot; is now over for the stock. Indeed, the best, most knowledgeable, and most accurate analyst on the 'Street had this to say in summary about AMD:

Despite the profits, however, AMD will face challenges continuing to grow market share, added Ashok Kumar of US Bancorp. &quot;There is a limited potential for the company to gain market share,&quot; Kumar said.

There is NOBODY in this Forum, or any other Forum, or any troll/hype site on the web (ie. Tom's, Register, etc.) period, that knows anywhere near as much as Ashok. He is THE MAN when it comes to the semi industry.
